Have you ever had that one controlling member telling you how to run your forum?

I've been lucky. The people I have are friends and they're very supportive - without needing to be in charge of anything.

Lol no. I wouldn't take kindly to being told I'm running my own site wrong.

Nope, not really. Not in very bad ways anyway. Mostly ideas and bugs and errors

Not that I recall. Has this happened to you? @Terminated

No. But my friends told me that I wasn't doing it right. I was not offended by their honesty. I knew when I closed my forum that I had already been running it into the ground from start to finish. It dawned on me a month into it that I didn't know what I was doing.

That what can get be offended easily,
because no one that’s not experienced can tell me how to run things.

No. Not that I can recall. I've had people offer suggestions and be supportive but I've never had someone just out right tell me how to run my forum.

If they offer suggestions I’m all for that but if they’re being rude that’s a different story.

I haven't had this problem. But I have seen other forums have this issue & some of the people can get quite nasty.

I've had friends offer suggestions but that's because I was open to them or asked for them.

If someone I didn't know came out and started telling me how to run my forum then, I agree. That is completely different.

I try to provide the best support but if they start being disrespectful I tell them to leave.

Not really. I value feedback from my users - especially constructive criticism - and I usually encourage my users to reach out to me if they have any ideas or thoughts on how my forum could be improved.

Constructive criticism is a completely different level than telling you how to run your forum outright. On my forum, I have an area on my forum called "suggestion box". That part of the forum is for people to drop off their suggestions where I'll let the community discuss if they like that idea or not.

When a forum is in its infancy stages you must listen to members regardless, tbh. Once you have 20+ active and regular contributors you can be more selective.

If the feedback is constructive I’ll always listen as long as they treat me like a person.
