Termite damage?

Has anyone ever had to deal with termite damage? What was the treatment you chose to do and how expensive was it?

We had a door/doorframe replaced this morning and we have termites 🙁 We knew we had wood damage from water getting in the area, but I had never seen termites in the area before. I have to call an exterminator to come out and assess.

Yes, I bought my first house in 2016 and found out it had some minor termite damage. The repairs are costly, and the treatment is also a few hundred dollars, depending on the size of your home. Typically, they will drill holes in your foundation and put treatment in that way. There are usually multiple visits to ensure the treatment is successful.

Oh man that really sucks Katrina! I haven't had to deal with this, and I hope I never do. I hope it won't be too expensive, get a few estimates and see which company will be the cheapest if you can.

We have an exterminator coming out Monday afternoon to assess the situation and give an estimate for treatment. I'm really guessing this will be over $2,000 🙁

Always get two or three estimates. Also, make sure there is a male with you. I'm not saying that due to safety concerns, but companies and the like will often give females a higher cost because they may believe they don't know any better. This mentality also happens in the quick oil change places.

I totally agree with you!! Mechanics are known for doing that to women all the time!

Yeah. You don't know you have a really bad infestation until it's too late. By that time you learn that they're swarming through the whole house. They completely destroyed the flooring in a house I used to live in out in the country. We ended up moving out. The damage was that severe. Spraying sometimes works, but often times you end up having to replace the parts in the home that the termites destroyed. Not a fun situation to be in especially if you're the home owner.

That must have been terrifying!

We had the treatment done today, and the guy said that the damage wasn't even that bad and that we don't need to sister up the joists like the inspector from that company told us. He seemed positive that what they put outside will get rid of them and kill the colony. They couldn't do the backyard except for bait traps because our well is too close to the home.
