Have you ever had that one member who is always disruptive in their posts by complaining and when things don't go their way, they get publicly upset?

I'm sure every forum owner has had at least one member who is like this.

They're a real pain to deal with, but unfortunately you can't please everyone. 😛

They can get publicly upset, that doesn't mean they are right still. If they continue with actions like that I would warn them, then if it continues I'd ban them for 30 days.

A few years ago, when I was trying to get a forum off the ground, I had a member that consistently wanted certain things added, and whenever I didn't agree to add those things at the time, he would start complaining about it. That is roughly the limit to my experience on complaining members.

I've seen that sort of member type before and they tend to be rather difficult to deal with because they cannot comprehend that maybe:
- they aren't always right.
- they need to let things go.
- publicly complaining won't help them at all.
- they are the problem.

I've also seen these sorts of members hold a massive grudge against other members and then carry those grudges across several different sites. All the while acting like they were perfectly right and nothing they ever wrote was a problem at all.

Ultimately the best solution is to ban these types of members early and get rid of their toxic behaviour. (Because in all honesty, they aren't going to change. They're very often set in their ways and think that their ways are best for everyone.)

If they go onto other sites (that you're also a part of) and try perpetuating the problem there then the best thing to do is to calmly let the staff of that site know what is going on and then stay away from that topic (or those topics). (Don't get involved or else it makes things worse, since then it looks like you're bringing more drama.) Staff of that other site will very quickly see the attitude/behaviour you've already experienced and will put the clamp down on it pretty quickly.

I've seen members like that, but happily never encountered one, yes some wanted changes but they didn't make a fit about it.

If they went to another site that I was part of, that would bother me. Like they have some sort of vendetta against me. Sadly I wouldn't be able to do much but ban them from my site and then let the staff know about it on the other site.

I've been staff on larger forums and the amount of complaints we got about silly stuff (that hardly mattered) was annoying. Eventually we had so many visitors (a LOT of traffic), not as many contributors, and enough whiners that the owner shut it down even though the revenue was quite high.

It never came back and I miss that site to this day.

Sometimes its more than just "that one member," I've seen entire forums filled with people like that. But, we all have emotions and sometimes they leak out.

Forums attract these people though.
The big characteristics are:
1 Having plenty of extra time.
2 Resorting to the internet as real life social relationships are too much work
3 A frustrated temperament due to non achievement in real life.
Trouble..
