So, I only know of three that I can remember reading the book first before watching the movie that I genuinely enjoyed: Holes (took it back a decade), Harry Potter, and Hunger Games.
What do you think are some of the best? Please feel free to let us know.
Harry Potter comes to mind first. I can't remember if I read the first book before I saw the first film or if it was backwards. I do know I read the other books before watching the movies, and I wasn't happy that things had changed. Now that I've seen the movies so much, I guess it didn't make too much of a difference, the things that bothered me from before.
I'll say Moneyball. Only hardcore sports fans knew anything about that book when it was written, and then suddenly the movie comes out and it's a smash hit. I guess the catch it's based on a true story (for the most part), so it's hard for the movie to go away from being like the book.
I think Harry Potter is the first that springs to mind. Although not as big a movie I’d also say The Devil Wears Prada was a pretty good book to movie too!
Harry Potter is the first that pops to mind, but having read the books before the movies, I remember not being a fan of the things they'd changed or left out.
The Hunger Games also comes to mind, and I remember enjoying those movies. The second part of Mockingjay had me crying in the theater at the end, and I don't even cry at books or movies lol, but the ending just moved me so much that the tears just came.
Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings were great book-to-film adaptions. However, those are some of the very few books I've read thoroughly in my lifetime.
