I am finishing up designing my gaming arcade, I will post it here soon. It actually is very well put together and will have a LOT of unique things. Anyways, I want to build in a semi small forums. My first thought was to use phpBB, though while going through it. I want to make MAJOR updates to the forums. For example I am going to have the members be of the forums as well as the site, also they are going to be a custom profile page, and a limited amount of things that phpBB allows but I wont.

Than, i realized that for this small forums, if phpBB might even be the best decision. What are your ideas? I can also create my own if needed, so that is besides the point. So, should I try to work with phpBB and customize the template, or should I build my own forums?

Go with phpBB.

Making your own forums would be too much of a hassle, you would end up having too many flaws in it.

I know a few places with custom profiles (you choose the questions for everyone to see)

moonfruit.com (allows you to edit with a editor)
grou.ps// (has member walls, like facebook)

Thanks but I don't need a website builder.

@xCuCu, I disagree. I am a professional web designer and have even created my own, secure, custom CMS / ACP. So, I know what I am doing coding wise, and even design. The thing is, I am having trouble, and I think, it will be a hassle just to design the template for the phpBB to suit my style. I will try to work with it though.

@Hakuto_washi, I would rather stay with either a custom built or phpBB since I know both, though thank you for the suggestion.

If you're able to create it yourself, I say go for it. Make it unique from everybody else.
