I never realized exactly how necessary it is to give new members a big welcome until I became a new member.
It had been a while since I signed up on any new forums but I've been registering at some of the forums I've found here on FP to get a feel for what's out there and to see which ones I'd like to do affiliate posts with.
Here's my experience...I'll start with FP. When I first signed up here, it took a while to get a lot of welcome messages in my Intro thread. I didn't know at first that it would be important to me. I wanted to feel welcomed. I wondered why I would see people on here posting, and even staff...and yet they wouldn't come say welcome to me.
Now, on my site at CH, I try to encourage my long time members to welcome everyone! I tell them to go and ask new members questions to get to them to return. Not everyone follows my lead though.
As I said earlier, I've been registering at some of the sites I found here that members own. I know there are some new sites with members who don't log in often so that doesn't leave a negative impression on me. The sites where I've had 2 pages of welcomes was really nice to pop into!
I don't know if others feel the same way as I do. But what if there are more people like me who think that a first impression comes from a warm welcome? And maybe not just a welcome to the board, but to have people ask what are your interests and where are you from or what's you favorite color? Ask questions. Engage. Bring them back to dialog.
That's my tip of the day 😀
