On top of the suggestions already mentioned, i think you could do with some more posts on your forum before promoting. This can be done in one of these two ways :

- Get friends and family to help you build up a reasonable post count (at least 1000 i would say)
- Create fake accounts yourself and basically talk to yourself on the forums.

Either way, it will definitely help if you have posts already on your forum. I can almost guarantee that nobody will sign up to your forum if there are no posts.
