The Computer Forumz

Not to be rude - but I aren't really bothered what other people think.. I go with what I think will make the community a better success.

I've got one thing say "You only get what you pay for".. so I do think vBulletin is better.

Regards Jason 🙂

Well, in my opinion, vBulletin is very un-user-friendly.

I've never hung around for long on a vB forum, they're confusing and in my opinion more un-professional than phpbb3.

There aren't half as many features for vB than there are for Php.

At the end of the day, it's your call.

Yeah it is your choice, and I forgot to add that I also find Vb quite confusing to.

I don't where you get that from.. :S ....

I find vBulletin very easy to navigate around and user friendly.... When I first visited techspot ... I got used to that straight away....

phpBB is FREE and open source ... Vbulletin is paid software... I've said before you ONLY get what you pay for.

If vBulletin is un-professional ... then why has techspot.com made it one of the biggest forums around with over 40,000 readers? Not to say "Techspot" started on a free account called fortunecity.

Regards Jason 🙂

And I forgot to mention ... vBulletin {MODS} are a lot easier to install. It's rare you have to edit an open source file.

That's your opinion - but most webmasters use vBulletin. phpBB is one of the easiest forums to hack - they visit a site and it's something to do with cookie from the phpBB site. There is many styles for vBulletin.....and the looks a lot better than phpBB....

Many big forums use vBulletin like techspot.com

Regards Jason 🙂
That cookie hack was in phpBB2... That is no longer an issue in phpBB2 or in phpBB3. Many people always think phpBB3 is like phpBB2 with lots of security problems and that is not true.

phpBB is the most used forum software around and yes it did take years to make but what is better someone rushing out a version in order to justify the amount people are paying or a company putting years of hard work making it secure, easy to manage while keeping it simple.

I know there is better forum software out there, vb i don't really class as better. It just looks better as it is paid and if full of stuff you either don't need just to make it look advanced and full of features alot of which you probably won't use. IPB has a better look and the admin panel is more organised and user friendly and it is much easier to find thing and has less of the unnecessary features and options their are.

Only because you are with phpBB doesn't mean you don't take it seriously. I take this forum very seriously which is why i have spent hundreds of hours adding stuff, doing services, coming up with new services. upgrading the forum and installing all the other software (blog and topsite) aswell as promoting this forum everywhere possible in order to make everyone's forum a success. It is a bit unfair i think to say that only because you are using a free software you don't take it seriously.

If vBulletin is un-professional ... then why has techspot.com made it one of the biggest forums around with over 40,000 readers?
The are massive phpBB forums around like this - http://www.bokt.nl/forums/ and there is much bigger although that is the only one i can bothered to find at the moment. Also if you look at the software being run by the biggest forum in the world then you will also see another big phpBB forum. - http://rankings.big-boards.com/?p=all

We are trying to give you advice as that is one of the reasons why we are here. Wether you take it or not it is up to you as it will be your money at the end of the day but we are giving our thoughts and opinions have used it on the user side and the admin side.

Yes - I Know your giving me advice, and I have the upmost respect for you, christian and EFC2007. Yes, alright phpBB is good - but I prefer vBulletin. I have also had experience with the admin side of vBulletin and I love it. Yes - IPB is another good forum software.... At the end of the day - everyone is going to have different opinions and mine is that vBulletin is better.

Regards Jason 🙂

Fair enough.

Although please remember we're not responsible for any faults / errors that may (and probably will) occur when switching your forum software.

Why would you be responsible? And it's very easy to convert... We've got a group ready to do it... You just use a program called Impex... I was speaking to many who had just come from phpBB3RC7 and they said it was really easy.

Regards Jason 🙂
