For certain people that deal with customers on a daily/weekly basis, do you believe in the golden rule? The custom is always right?

I work in a shop and i have to say that rule is total rubbish. You stand there and know that the product was not broken when they brought it as you would notice is a vase had a massive crack all the way down one side of it before you brought it yet you still have to give them a refund just because they broke it and thought "If i say it was broken then they will have to replace it or give me a refund".

In my profession, the customer is always right.

As a graphic designer, i rely on the client's specification to get my work done. At the end of the day, i'm designing their product, and if it's not satisfactory, it needs to be re-done.

So in my profession, the customer is always right, but in others such as fowlers example, the customer is BS-ing.

I do believe that in some professions the customer's requests should be honored as in Christian's case for example. The customer may not always be right or you may not always agree with their viewpoint, but still I feel the customer should be treated respectfully and politely even when they are being unreasonable.

As Fowler said i work in a shop Boots in the UK, and many times people say i have charged them wrong or they deserve a discount and they always blame the person at the tills for everything, what i say thoe is that i dont control the prices i just push the buttons. Sometimes customers come up to me and say i charged them wrong with a specific product because the "offer" on this product down there says its £1.99 when i charged £3.99. You then have to explain they got the wrong one and that instead of the 500ml they want the 200ml. Then they blame me for everything being so wrong when they didn't even read what was on offer and assumed that everything with that product was on offer.

Annoys me so much.

Customer isn't always right but their opinion should matter.

Treat your customers well is all I say

I agree that customers should be treated with
respect - but I don't think it's right that some
people will take advantage of this 'rule' and lie
about products being faulty etc in order to get
their money back when it's their own fault.

i would have to say that i think the customer is right only if they are, well, right 🙂 and i wish people would realize that if they treated the sales people with respect things would go a lot easier for both parties 😛

As someone who works with customers on a nightly basis. They sometimes ask the most ridiculous questions ~rolleyes~ like where something is when that's not even what they're looking for. It's also really sad when stocking freight, you find empty condom boxes hidden behind the crackers. You can get them for free at the health department. Why risk up to and over 5,000 dollars in fines and possibly 5 years in prison just for 15 minutes of fun?

What annoys me is when they ask what ingredients the item has in it, and when you read them off the back (lol), they then ask what they mean?!

Its like i dont know i dont make the bloody things!

Yeah but when they know i am just a sales assistant, and they still do it, its just beyond dumb.

Are customers always right? Answer is No. You can let them think they are right, but in reality they can be wrong. My dad is a store manager, and he has to deal with customers that make up many lies, to get a couple things free.

Here is a story once. My dad had a customer who came into his store, and told him that his company came down to his house, and put his peanuts he purchased form the store, into his freezer? An, he said that he was under investigation for 4 years now? For one, there is no such thing as a customer being under an investigation from a store. Second, no one came to his house, and put his peanuts in the freezer.

During the summers ive been working construction, and let me telly ou, people tend to be REALLY picky when it comes to a house. If one tiny thing is messed up you get blamed and have to fix it right then and there. I hate the customer. Deep fry him in oil.

well it is their house...lol. but i can see how that would be annoying

i have a story my brother told me about someone he works with. so the customer goes up to a store person and starts complaining about a camera or something he bought. he wanted to return it but he had already used it for too long so he couldn't. so hes screaming at this person and the worker is staying calm. the customer goes "let me speak to head of the department" the worker goes "sir i am the head of the department". the the customer goes "let me speak with your store manager". worker goes "sir...i am the store manager". customer walk away

lol i hope i made that clear enough ^^
