With the recent release of iPhone 16, it made really think about the evolution of smart phones. My first iPhone was the 3 and I've been with Apple ever since but since then, phones have become more progressive. Samsung came out with the flip phone, iPhone with the new updates already installed in the new phones, and who knows what's happening next?

What are your thoughts about the evolution of smart phones?

I don't recall which model iPhone I first had but I've always stuck with Apple. Your post made me realize although there have been significant upgrades along the way, I'm actually doing the exact same things with my phone now as I was with my first phone.

What ever happened to the days when phones used to be just phones? The BlackBerry was decent enough back in its day... no need to have like five camera lenses at the back of it and all that gimmicky rubbish they come with these days.

Yes, call me a luddite, but it's just mad when you think of it (and for the record, I don't own a phone, for personal reasons).

A couple of hours after making the post above, I had an air con engineer talking me through the operation of a new unit installed in my recording studio and he finished by saying I could forget everything I'd just learned and use my phone to operate the unit🙄

I've been with Android my entire life. Since 2.2 and the Motorola Cliq, I believe. Currently on a Pixel 8 Pro. I've never used any iOS device, ever. Though I've been hearing that Android 15 supposedly is significantly limiting sideloading apps (will be possible but permissions will be limited by default and harder to bypass), so I'm not sure what my next phone will be in 2-3 years.

I have been an Apple user since the beginning. A few of my kids tried other brands but ended up returning to Apple. I don't want my phones or watches to be jailbroken or backdoored; they work perfectly fine with the features I can access.

I like the products so much that I purchased a site about them. (work in progress)

I’ve had Apple iPhones since the 4! I briefly switched to a Galaxy S2 and that was horrific! I had a blackberry before the iPhone and that was pretty decent for its time but now I wouldn’t have anything other than an iPhone!

I originally had Android devices, then switched to iPhone and recently switched back to Android. This time instead of getting a Galaxy phone, I went with a Motorola Moto G and for the price it's a great phone! It only cost me $80 and I was able to easily add my apps from my iPhone to my Moto G with ease. My first phone was a Samsung Glide though lol. After that I got a Galaxy S2, didn't have any issues with it but I needed to upgrade once Pokemon Go came out. I went with a Galaxy S7 then, and shortly after switching from Sprint to Total Wireless, I went ahead and made the switch to iPhone. I got a iPhone SE in 2018, then a iPhone 7S, then a iPhone XR and now my Moto G 5G 2024.

Smartphones have evolved to be multi-dimensional and capable of doing many different things. With a modern smartphone, things that used to be exclusive to PC can be achieved with a smartphones. The advancement of smartphonesbhas rendered many digital devices obsolete.

The first smartphone that I had was just 512MB RAM. The current smartphone that I use is 6GB RAM. Smartphones have evolved so much with processing speed and performance.

Smartphones have come a long way from being just phones for calls and texts to becoming powerful everyday devices. Starting with early iPhones like the 3, each generation has brought better performance, cameras, and smarter features. Now it feels like the focus is shifting more towards AI, new designs like foldable phones, and making everything work more seamlessly together, and it’ll be interesting to see what replaces or evolves beyond the smartphone next.

Smartphones have really evolved from what it was thirteen years ago when I had my first smartphone. With smartphones leading the web3 revolution, it almost has impact on every aspect of human life now.
