Has anyone tried this non-profit open source selling platform? I think it looks a little unprofessional. In fact, even a better theme might only slightly improve the image - and buyers are cynical. However, though, maybe it can work.

I've used it plenty of times and it's worked wonders. All you need to know is some PHP and what not to edit it to keep it updated with newer PHP versions, along with other details such as plugins etc. It's a great tool for what is being offered for free, although their image is sadly mistaken.
I have used it in the past. I have not followed it much these days. It worked well when I used it a few years ago. Not sure what they have been doing with it.
Yes, you can use Paypal. I never used it that way. I owned a P2H type site. And it will do that too.
