The Last Apprentice
A Q&A with Bazinga! and Twisted Fairytale
Questionnaire:
What do you think of the new "theme" or "skin" on the forum?
Well, seeing so many sites so often, it's very difficult for me to remember what your theme looked like before this, so I'll just be judging what you have now. I've seen the theme before on a few different sites, so I'm not sure you could call it a new theme, but perhaps a new theme selection. There are some off-putting areas of your site, specifically the menu area. Let me snap a picture to show you...
Let's start from the top! There is some awkward area right below the banner (purple area). I have my adblock disabled, so there isn't an ad here. Just an awkward spot... I'm not sure how much control you have over that, but it's something to address. Then, we have this button that just says "On," dictated in the orange square. I know that's the Login button, but I'm not sure why it doesn't just say "Login" instead of "On."
Next, we have a horizontal bar (green space) that seems to be sized incorrectly. If you see, there is a dark mono-tone space surrounding the decorated bar. Finally, your box seems innovative as a menu, but I think it's executed incorrectly. After every header, you follow it with five or six periods. Ellipses should be kept to three periods; in this case, I don't even think they are necessary.
In conclusion (this was a long section), your new theme can work out, but there are a few kinks that need to be worked out before it's beautiful and functional.
Do you think the new "theme" and the contest will help generate more activity on the forum?
I'm not too sure how the change in theme will really affect the activity on the forum, considering the theme is a free theme that can be found on a few sites. So, about the theme, I'm not too sure. About the contest: I can't find what you're speaking of. I have searched all of the top forums and can't seem to find the contest on your forum. That says something in of itself: if your members can't find your contest, they can't participate. Something to remedy!
What would you do to help generate activity on the forum?
This is a question we are asked almost every questionnaire. I don't have much of an answer, other than what I say just about every time: advertisements and events. You'll attract people with a few things: attention and money. Provide both, and you can start growing your community. However, remember that you have a forum with a very narrow topic. Don't expect too much growth with the topic of your forum, but that doesn't mean you can't try!
