It's not as if some conservatives haven't called the Obamas monkeys, or made fun of the president's daughters before. You shouldn't generalize this as the "liberal media" doing something, but rather the Cartoonist: Ann Telnaes. She's the one who drew it, not the entire liberal media. π
Politics is dirty. People make fun of candidates' families all the time, and have done ever since the country was founded. If Ted Cruz can't take the occasional cartoon like this, he shouldn't run for President. That doesn't mean newspapers should edit this stuff out, but these kind of editorials slip through every now and then. It's the nature of politics. I don't see why you should condemn 50% of the media for a single cartoon. That's just a cheap shot.
I actually have never seen a media outlet publish anything about the Obama daughters depicting them as an animal, have you?
Yes, cartoonists do this; that's their issue. It's when it's published on social media for the entire world to see. You do realize social media gets a little more views than cartoonists themselves do, right? So you're basically saying it's totally fine for news outlets to say "oh hey, these innocent girls are depicted as monkeys, let's publish it for the entire world to see and have it follow these girls everywhere for the rest of their lives."
This is the internet, Matt. Politics might be dirty and it's one thing to depict the president or other leaders as animals or objects, but it's another to literally cyber bully a 5 and 7 year old. Do you seriously think that's fine? Do you really think that's an ethical and logical thing to do for a news site to do? Ted Cruz might not even win the presidency, who knows. However now these girls are going to be bullied, mocked, and who knows what for a long while for something a news media did. It's not like they broke into a house and now they are reporting on them and now they face criticism and mockery from their classmates; these two little girls were just mocked by a news agency.
These things happen sure, just like murders and drunk drivers happen. It doesn't mean it isn't right and it doesn't mean that they can or should get away with this. Sorry, but if I was to post a picture of you and your daughters depicted as monkeys and blasted it everywhere, how would you feel? They didn't ask to be published as monkeys, did they? They're children, it's a whole new ball game than depicting candidates and adults in general as a animal.

Fox News is just one conservative media outlet.
π Also, they're a news channel. They don't make cartoons.
π
Anyway, are you really saying that your side of the aisle is so perfect that they've never said anything offensive before? Never drawn any offensive cartoons? Never made offensive comments, or brought crazy pundits onto their TV shows to say crazy things before?
π
Here's just one example of people from all sides of the aisle attacking the daughters of Presidents, both Republican and Democrat.

The monkey cartoon is just one specific example of someone attacking a candidate's daughters. I don't think this particular cartoon is any more offensive than Rush Limbaugh comparing Chelsea Clinton to a dog for example (in both cases, the target of the attack is being trivialized as being non-human).
But it doesn't really matter, IMO. The republican party is using this cartoon to attack the democratic party. That's fine, because both parties are made up of grown ups who can take a little bit of heat. But I don't think we should all get worked up over this. Parties attack each other all the time over these things. The democrats and republicans are battling it out, making each other look worse so that they'll win the election. The unfortunate thing is that children will get drawn into these battles sometimes, but it happens to both sides of the aisle, and is just another example of politics getting a bit too out of hand.
Last time I thought Chelsea Clinton isn't 7....or 5 for that matter. You're not taking into consideration of the damage that this could do
TO A 5 YEAR OLD... Yes, because she totally wants to be blasted as a monkey everywhere and me the center of attention for all the wrong reasons. You're literally saying "oh yeah, it happens" without actually thinking of the damage this is going to do. How would you explain to your 7 year old that the nation now see's them as monkeys? That it's going to be the first thing they think of when they see them with their father? That something on the internet is now going to haunt them all because the idiots published something depicting them as a monkey? Please, tell me, how would you explain to that to your kids if it happened to them?
