As I am not staff I will make this as good as I can make it. I will break it down into small but key areas for you. This is my opinion and can be used as suggestions and not actions 😛

First Impressions:

The website's concept is strong, you have a clear idea what your website is and have shown this clearly on your home page. I can easily navigate without fault or problems. The website is well versed, with great content features.

Design:

I am going, to be honest, the website does need some work. I would look at other websites in the same category to see what layouts and colour schemes are working. Trends can help make this site look amazing, what I find lets your site down is the lack of design experience, you have good solid content but the overall design is just not there. I do feel mean when I said this. Have you tried looking at layouts and positioning, this could make the website appear much greater.

I wish you all the best with your site! it will get better!

I will leave the staff to finish their review
😛

First Impressions:
My first impression of your site was okay. There are plenty to explore on your site and they seem easy to find, however, I'm not a fan of the plain white background. It makes the site look too bland and boring. Adding a splash of color in the background or some nice design in the background, I think, would take that out of it while still making the content of your site stand out. I do appreciate and like the fact that you've provided some trailers for some up-coming movies. I've found some movies that are coming out soon that I'm going to want to go see in the near future thanks to your site.

Site Structure:
I like the navigation bar towards the top. It allows for easy access to the different things that you offer on "The Media Vault". However, I would do something to differentiate the title of your site from the navigation bar. I don't really like having the main title of your site and the navigation bar in the same banner/header looks right to me. I would also add at least one or two movie posters that direct you to their respective movie trailer. I think that would even things out a bit more, in my opinion.

The thing I liked the best: I love the content on your site!
The thing I liked the least: There are some design or structure issues that I would fix (if it were me).

Overall Mark:

I love "The Media Vault"! Especially getting to watch the trailers for some of the up-coming movies. I would keep up the great work and your site will go far. Thank you for letting me review your site and best wishes!

I too agree that the website needs some work. The thing I find most problematic, especially on a first impressions standpoint, is that the website lacks direction. Well, maybe you do have direction, but the users don't know that because there's no "about" anywhere. What is this website? What do you want the users to do or get out of this website? It's all very unclear to me. And unfortunately it could drive many people away and leave you with high bounce rates.

I really do like the responsiveness of the website. It seems to work well. However, the website is pretty bland. It doesn't even conform to flat style guidelines (which is preferred in this day and age for modern websites) and looks to me more like a website made from the late 1990s or early 2000s. Add some more retina friendly colours to it (without overdoing it) to make it look more sleek.

Overall, your biggest fallout is simply that I have no idea what the purpose of this website is or what you want users to do. If I were still on the editorial team, my overall mark here would be a 2.5 or a 3. You did pretty well with site design aside from needing a bit more flare. But those first impressions really need worked on.

I've added a background. Wonder if it causes too much focus to the background or if it's OK?

I don't think there is too much focus on your background. I think your background adds enough color without causing a distraction.

Wondering what people think of the new updates? I've added in a footer and changed the site a little. Such as if you mouse over the 'Contact' menu link you will be given a contact form rather than taken to the contact page.

I like so far, but I still don't know what the website's purpose is or what you want visitors to do. Also, the contact form could be a bit smaller... not too small, but I think it takes up a lot of unnecessary room.

EDIT: NVM I found your about us at the bottom. But that still leaves the question "what should visitors do?"

IMO isn't it bluntly obvious what its set up for? It says what the site is about in the About Us bit at the bottom. And the menu tabs are self explanatory. It's not like I've made it purposely difficult to realize it's a blog about movies, tv shows, and other stuff I want to blog about.

I've contacted my developer to see what can be done about the unneeded space in the contact part.

I edited my post to avoid double posting. I found your about us at the bottom (so that's a big improvement but there is still more that can be done).

I apologise if my advice sounds harsh. I'm one of the harder critics here. And you and I may agree to disagree. And I don't necessarily think it's a strong deal breaker that you don't have a call to action (especially now that you do have an about us). But all I'm suggesting is to make sure visitors know what they should do on your website. Calls to action are very important. It should not be assumed that visitors will know what you want them to do on your website based on its content; you should tell them directly via a call to action (eg. Register, buy now, contact us, comment and share, and so on). I have been one of those people that cannot determine what to do. Your website gives content that you enjoy. But what should I as a visitor take from your website, and what should I do? If visitors do not know, then you could potentially lose some traffic. I think you need to relate your website to your visitors a little bit more.

That's just me though. I'm not sure what your goals as a website are, but I suppose I'm not that experienced in the market of websites meant to showcase the webmaster's interests. My expertise more falls in the line of websites meant to attract visitors and engage them (such as blogs with a focus on commenting / discussion, social networking, ecommerce, websites advertising a company's services, and so on).

So I've listened to all of you regarding an About section. So now I've added one. Click 'About' in the menu on site to see it.

I've updated site so all blog posts show on homepage, and made the navigation easier. Was told it would be better to have a much easier to navigate website.
