Welcome to our August Edition of The Monthly Spotlight! From time to time we will be spotlighting a forum or blog in order to allow the FP community to be introduced to new sites or get reacquainted with existing sites. Without further ado, let's announce August's Spotlight! πŸ’‘

@AussiePaul, what inspired you to start your forum?

Oh wow, was not expecting this. Thanks so much. This has made my day. Thank you πŸ˜€

@Wessel "what inspired you to start your forum?" erm, I was a member of a now defunct forum in around 2000-2001 and arguments happened and the forum was split into two sides basically, I was the designated one to make a rival forum but it was never going to be a rival to me so all I did was make an msn group and not long after that, they closed so we moved to Conforums and then Proboards and now just 3 months shy of 20 years, never looked back πŸ™‚

@Katrina "What made you decide on that color scheme for the theme?" firstly thanks for the compliments, that means a lot πŸ™‚ not even really sure to be honest, we have about 30-40 themes, I can't take credit for any of them, at the beginning people expressed light is more happier but we do have darker themes for those especially with eye problems πŸ™‚

Thanks again for this, it is a huge honour πŸ™‚

You have more themes? I need to go back later and check them all out πŸ˜€

What is your favourite part of running your forum? What challenges have there been?

If you could move your forum to a self hosting solution, would you do so? Or would you stick with Proboards?

So nice to see you get recognized, it's so well deserved!

Do you find it better having a large member base or a smaller one? Do you find that your community FEELS like a unified community?

Congrats on the Monthly Spotlight!! πŸ™‚

@Hulk "What is your favourite part of running your forum?" Won't lie, the longevity and stability, while most forums come and go, people delete forums, then remake forums, Funjoint will always be there. Plus it has been nice that many friendships have formed. People have met offline from FJ πŸ™‚, also seeing people grow, in 2006 we had a 16 year old girl join the forum, she is still with us now in her early 30s, and 8 kids later. She lives in England and I had the pleasure last year of talking to her on the phone πŸ™‚

"What challenges have there been?" Arguments are never fun. Thankfully all the toxic people have gone now. Also when the forum went quiet in around 2009 so 2010 to 2015 was virtually a ghost town until we basically revived.
@Ravenfreak "If you could move your forum to a self hosting solution, would you do so? Or would you stick with Proboards?" More than happy now to stick with Proboards, nearly 20 years now and we have had a forum on other places, Proboards has always worked well.
@PGen98 Thanks for the compliments and also thanks for joining, muchly appreciated πŸ™‚
"Do you find it better having a large member base or a smaller one? Do you find that your community FEELS like a unified community?" Back in 2003, I always set out to be active and large, I honestly don't see the point otherwise. Many forums have the same members, not that my members are told not to be elsewhere, I do know for a fact, FJ is the only forum they are interested in so their loyalty means a lot.
