I think that dark vs. light is a personal preference. Both can be done wonderfully or horribly.

I'm designing a grey skin myself for the next default in a couple more months {Hopefully!} and it will have a slightly lighter base, but will be dominantly grey. I think your new theme is excellent.

It looks pretty darn good. However I think the thead/catbg could be a bit more "wow" looking. Other then that it is a great theme,
