The Football Association appear committed to appointing an Englishman as the next manager of the national team. Fabio Capello, manager of the team who fared so miserably at this summer's World Cup, remains contracted until 2012. Although the FA's Club England managing director Adrian Bevington made it clear this morning that, following Capello's tenure, the plan is to return to a home-grown coach.

"That is the view in the discussions I have been involved in," Bevington told BBC Radio 5 Live Sportsweek.

"We enjoyed working with Sven-Goran Eriksson, and we have Fabio Capello in now.

"I think the English team should be managed by an English manager [in the future]."

Capello found himself in the spotlight again this week when, shortly before England's victory over Hungary in a Wembley friendly, he announced former captain David Beckham is no longer under consideration to play for his country.

"A lot of people have a very different view of Fabio Capello to the one they had before the World Cup," added Bevington.

"Our job is to support him as best we can. Maybe we can help him, and maybe now is the time to improve communications between manager and players."

The FA have also confirmed England will play France in a friendly at Wembley on November 17, the game Capello earmarked as a farewell outing for Beckham - who immediately scotched the idea by making it clear he has no intention of announcing his retirement. Capello has already presided over one meeting with the French, in Paris two years ago, when Franck Ribery's penalty split the sides in the Italian's second match in charge.

France also came out on top in the last meeting between the sides on English soil 11 years ago, when Nicolas Anelka scored twice. The match will be full of intrigue after recent events involving both nations. Capello remains defiant as he seeks to revitalise England - while France were one of the few countries to fare even worse. Anelka was sent home, and Patrice Evra was a key figure in a strike that followed during a stormy campaign in which they failed to win a single match.

So what do you think should hape?

Harry Redknapp, can't see him leaving Tottenham though.

He might, I am not really interested in who becomes manager it is the fact that there gonna make one of the biggest deals of it.

Harry Rednapp absolute number 1 choice. He would do fantastically but he's already taken 🙁

Being the English manager seems like a much better job. They have a lot to live up to after their disappointing finish in the Cup.

They also said that before Capello though, and they ended up going with the Italian. Apart from Redknapp, we don't have any English managers capable of managiing their country. So unless it's Redknapp then i would say no to them all.

Whether any one agree's or not, Martin O'Neill would be a great International manager, and it's only so long before he gets a job.

Redknap said he'd take the job if it was offered to him. 🙂

I wouldn't mind Stuart Pearce, either.

But he'll know the team. I expect that, by 2012, a load of today's U21s will be senior players; if Pearce moves up with them, so to speak, it will help with communication, team morale and team chemistry.
