The Next best thing Xenforo
Mann I've seen alot of forums styles, (Me being a packager, at some sites I"ve browsed through the whole lots of them, SMF, phpBB, MyBB, vBulletin, IPB) but so far Xenforo is one of the best I've seen, I don't even know where it came for, or when It came out...
But it's better than phpBB as far as I see...
It's like a Forum version of twitter & Facebook

But I have no clue on how to work it... I heard it's pretty hard, harder and than MyBB & phpBB combined...

LOL 🙂
Any feedback?

I disagree and my points are very clear based on how I run my forums. :great:

But I would love to buy XF and create a project using it. Much better than vBulletin and IPB.

Yeah, I had no idea it was a paid software when it first came out. I remember thinking I thought it was awesome that someone had the balls to sell a forum software using only the bare minimum.

I am going to agree with you and rep you for that amazing point. Is the reason I am not as excited as everyone else and why I do not hold a current license. PhpBB can bring in the same effects and such with a few edits to the core files.

I would like to know your reasons for saying XenForo is better than IPB and vBulletin. As far as I know, even though vB has a few security and server load issues, both IPB and vB have a crapload more features and support behind them, while XF has pretty limited features and a not-so-big fanbase.

That is why some people like XenForo more. XenForo is for people that want forum that is fast, lightweight, and simple.

Just ask any VB owner about the support, it sucks. I read that IPB's support is good, but XenForo is better due to them big small.

To me that is a good thing because you have much bigger impact on where the forum software goes. You have better chance of get your idea add to the forum software at XenForo then IPB or vB.

I've bought two xenforo licenses since it's been in beta and I think it's amazing software that will eventually come to power some big boards. There's tons of "great" about it so I'll list my negatives for it.

1. It *is* the new kid on the block. That means a smaller community of users, and developers/stylers so the number of great styles and plugins aren't anywhere near VBulletin. That being said, it's developed by ex-VB head honchos so they know what they're doing.

2. While it has it's own pretty decent SEO built in, it doesn't have support of the all-mighty VBSeo guys. Yet. They've stated in the past that they have no intentions to develop for Xenforo, but lately they've dropped some hints about releasing something for XF later this year. That gives me the impression that they know Xenforo is gaining ground on VB and it's worth the time to develop for it.

3. Minor issue. The pending litigation against them from Internet Brands (Vbulletin) claiming copyright infringement. I say minor because for anyone following the case, it's pretty clear that the claims are baseless and XF will have no problem coming out victorious while making Internet Brands look scared of a new competitor.

Now, one big upside just because. XF is staying as "just a forum" for the foreseeable future and concentrating on making their forum software the best available. This gives them a huge leg up in my opinion unlike VB which did the CMS thing and made a mess of their code and reputation as you'll see in any discussion about VB 4+ on the internet.

LOL, the price to remove it is 250, while the price to get the software installed is 50

Of course it wouldn't have a big fanbase & Features as much as vB & IPB, it's a new software...

Against the most common view, i don't like Xenforo much. Its a middleman between a forum and a social network. Thing like that can beat the aim of a forum. A Forum is a place to discuss, and any Forum software should basically provide that.
But Xenforo provides more of a social network features, than what a Forum should provide. Open source people like MyBB and phpBB haven't done that, as they care more about maintaining the nature of forums than on money.

I won't convert my MyBB forum to Xenforo, even if i get a free license.

XenForo is new software and the one of the best way to get new customers is to have copyright link. They will most likely will lower the cost after XenForo gets big.

You may think that, but many people disagree. In fact many people would like it if other forum software would be more social network friendly. Also XenForo does what forum should do, provide place to discuss, and more.

 at the part where you think Kier and Mike are doing this for the money. I think they would have keep working at vB if all they care was about the money.

Its funny that the OP labels XenForo the next best thing but appears to know nothing about it.

You can install the software yourself, it is not really rocket science and of course they are going to charge a nice amount for copyright removal.. durr.

And I personally love xenforo, I own two licenses and im due to release my second xf forum sometime soon. You might think it's basic, well at least it isn't vbulletin and over complicated. It has the features it needs to have and nothing unwanted or useless again like vbulletin.

xenforo just does it for me, it has great core features but nothing un-needed. Pretty much everything else I have wanted is available as a plugin.

I have even made over $800 to date designing xenforo themes for various people, The styling system is easy to use and you can make a simplistic style in half an hour even from the most basic of xenforo and css knowledge. That has paid for both of my licenses almst three times over :great:

As for the people slating on how it has social network features, well so does vbulletin and mybb 2.0 is rumored to be including them ohh and look at ipb 3.2.... if you don't like social network styled features then you better just quit forums altogether because in a year or so time every single forum will have social network features and you will have to come to terms with that.

And LOL @ Fluffy, show me any phpbb forum that does what xenforo does in the same way and with the same sleekness

XenForo is nice and the reason I did not get it is because it's in it's first version out of beta and it's features are still limited. I need something with good support and features behind it before I go buy it to find out I dislike and regret getting it.

I love Xenforo. I know my tech admin and I were talking once, and we decided that if things ever came to a head with phpBB as far as updates are going, we'd see about shelling out the money for a license. Despite it's limited features at this time I really love it.

Oh that sounds great Ashley. I'm sure Chatting Time would do great on Xenforo. It is really a great forum software. You also don't need much add-ons for a general discussion board.

Well, don't get too excited as nothing is definite yet. I even think Chatting Time would look loads better on a paid software at all, and I agree we do not need as many mods for a forum of my niche, but right now this is all just talk until things really start going downhill.
