As times have gone, we have seen system after system, handhelds, consoles, interactive games and more. In the year 2000, March 4th for japan and October 25th for the united states, the Playstation 2 was released. The Playstation 2 as we all know is the best selling console of all time to date. The have sold over 150 million units as last recorded in 2011. It was also stated that 1.52 Billion titles got there start from the Playstation 2 since its original launch. The Playstation 2 also has the largest library of games ever to date as well with over 3,857 games as also last recorded in 2011.
In 2006 with the release of the Playstation 3, we all expected the end to the Iconic Playstation 2. It was far from that, in fact, in 2006 and 2007, they actually release a new product with more revisions and they are still developing games for it to this very day, with 2 new titles coming to the system last month and more expected to come. I remind you, we have now hit 13 years of age for the great Playstation 2!
Well, not where near short-lived, the Playstation 2 is coming to an end as of 2013, with the talks of the Playstation 4, Sony has also announced they will be discontinuing the development of the Playstation 2. Obviously, you will still be able to purchase the system but not from Sony like you still can right now, you will still be able to game on it but, they will no longer support the system and you can also expect the "Playstation 2" tab on Sony's official website to be gone. With the 13 year old game system still holding strong with an MSRP of $99.99 USD, it is a shame to hear it is on its way out.
I no longer play my Playstation 2 but I an admit I am sad to see it go. It will be leaving as the Playstation 4 will be arriving. As I right this, the only thing in my mind is the Hope that the Playstation 4 will live up to the Iconic Playstation 2. They are putting a lot of wait on the Playstation 4's title by getting rid of the console that every one has owned at one point. I just hope Sony realises how big of a deal it is to discontinue the Playstation 2 and I hope they out-preform themselves with the Playstation 4 because they will need to if they hope to have it over take the Playstation 2 which like I have said time and time again in this article, still being sold to this day.
With the Christmas alone that had just passed in 2012, Sony sold 500,000 Playstation 2's alone, 13 years after launch. Like I have stated, the Playstation 4 has a lot to live up to as they have put this huge weight on its shoulders. How do you feel about this?
