I could literally..but TWO HIGH-END desktops or laptops for the price of Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended ($1000).

I realize it is a huge program that has been worked on so very much, but really?

As well as CS2 for me and CS5.1 trials..so ridiculous!

Think about like this:
Spend $1,000 and make over $10,000 a month with it. If you are talented designer and well known then you can make lot of money.

If you do not have the money then you can always get it for free. 😉

Yes because you're going to be making $10k a month freelancing online... makes perfect sense.

Photoshop is meant for businesses, that's where they make their money. You could always get a student license but I don't know why anyone who isn't going to make any money would pay to use photoshop.

My copy of photoshop just started acting weird 🙁

I bought one for around $950, and through using it have probably made around $750 from custom designs and works. This thing pays for itself.

OK...Maybe not $10k, but my point is people buy PS because they know that they are going to make money off it.

Photoshop has just become such a common tool because people like to pirate it and use it for forum GFX and things like that, and a lot of people don't realize that it's pretty much THE software to use for professional reasons and businesses, like Gimgak said. It's really powerful software, and seeing as it's used for commercial purposes its price is justified.

I'm stuck on CS2 still, got CS4 (I think) on my MacBook for cheap, but waiting to upgrade to 5 on the PC. The pricing is pretty steep for anyone who simply needs to create a few graphics, but for someone who uses it daily, it's worth the buck.

Yeah obviously for someone who actually uses it it's worth the price, but if you're just going to make a few graphics for your board or what not it would be a bit crazy to buy it. The alternatives are good enough for that, or if you must have ps you can get it by other means.
