It...doesnt...I think its just another way to get to the portal, though it isnt needed.

Exactly, it's the Portal which we have set as the Homepage.

Admin Zone is a excellent way to get your site noticed on google. It helped out my small roleplay community so much. You do need a post requirement before you can get your forum reviewed.

http://www.stumbleupon.com/

Stumble Upon is a good way to get some small traffic to your site. You just have to be smart about how you use it. A lot of respected admin's use it and it's free.

http://www.forumadvertiser.com/

Forum Advertiser . I don't think I've had the chance to go here yet, but it looks decent enough.

Digital Point is like Admin Zone but way bigger. They have a review forum that get's your site noticed on google too.
