What should be done? I'm thinking the battering is caused by some - due to some "adult temper tantrum". In other words, things go bad and the only way to let off steam is making somebody pay for it. Other source could be some sexual fetish. What are your thoughts on the source and what can be done to treat it and/or punish it?

One justification for beating could be corporal punishment. But even among people who believe it, the hitting doesn't go on the head or abdomen for sure. It's nothing but abuse.

It's mainly about a need to control which could be linked to a number of factors such as insecurity, personality disorders, substance abuse, being poorly educated etc.

I think the only way to treat it is to ensure it's reported, something that's really hard to do for so many reasons. Criminal prosecution as well as counseling could form part of the treatment process.

People on the receiving end of domestic abuse need too be taken far more seriously and have access to better support than is generally currently available.

A lot of times the person has the victim in a trap. There isn't enough money to go some place or the person has "something on" the victim. For instance, they could get them to where they couldn't see their kid or something.

Too bad they don't. They leave it up to the couples to sort it out in a civil suit. I knew a woman whose boyfriend would beat on her and the police wouldn't do anything about it. She eventually gathered enough evidence like text messages, took pictures of her bruises, recorded him throwing violent temper tantrums, & documented him stealing from her. She threatened him with her lawyer (no, her lawyer came over, spoke to him, and personally gave him a cease and desist letter) and he quickly moved out. Sometimes it takes some cold hard blackmail to make these people go away.
