The fact is probably that most of them have 10 or 20 daily active posters while the hundreds or thousand other members rarely post. In that case, if you're marketing a forum and want it to be interesting, you need those 10 to 20 people I think. Well. of course, a huge forum like Digital Point would probably have way more than 10 or 20 active posters.

Maintaining 10-20 active posters is not easy. Once the number rise, there will be each ego clash. There will be regular dropout from the initial 20 active posters and you will need new members to replenish the pack.

But Digital Forum doesn't have the option to add a signature!
FP can't even get active 20 posters a day. It's not easy and many forums do not get that amount. Well bigger and older forums do but in terms of each person how many posts a day they make.
I found this to be SO TRUE!! I never expected to see "cliques" but it has happened on Christianity Haven and at times it scares people off or makes them so mad that they don't want to return. We get people leaving and new arrivals all the time and the ones who have stayed around the longest were the very first sign ups.

I do agree - commerce or anything involving continued gain for reward helps keep users around. Services and Cashouts are a few methods I've seen employed recently across forums to try and get growth rolling: And they seem to work quite well.
But it is more often than not the same members repeatedly posting: Majority of a forum's membership will remain dormant.
