Thinking about making a social network

I thought about downloading Oxwall.com if i did and modified the script to make it look unique would it be still possible to still compete agaisnt facebook?

For competing against Facebook you will need thousands of developers and make something like Google +.

I don't see why anyone would like to be like those guys, the original facebook was horrible and poorly coded, but now that they have a bunch of money it's a great software.

Anyone can start small, like facebook originally was, then build up.
