Thinking about XenForo

click the forum in my sig 😉 thats XenForo.

I still like vbulletin over all paid. But as the best forum software, I would go with phpbb. You can do ANYTHING with it.

I love the fact that its not all automated because when your installing mods you can add and edit as you please.

Xenforo is basically vbulletin recoded. 🙂

Wait for IPB 3.2 then decide. 🙂

I tried 3.2 beta 3, and I still say IPB 3.2 is no way near to Xenforo yet. Maybe when they reach 3.3. 😛

Xenforo should be a free software. I'd rank it near mybb, which is good.

You're crazy. If Xenforo was free it would leave the free softwares in the dust, and people would leave paid softwares for it. It would be a free forum software better than paid if it was free. MyBB would die for sure if Xenforo was free. Its best if it just stays paid. 😛

Its not that great, you just need to keep justifying your license purchase as a good decision. 😛

Heh, if that really were to happen, I mean, Xenforo becoming an open source software, I can sure see that one going over well (sarcasm). Everyone would be ditch the current software they were on, whether it'd be free or paid, and all the forums on the Internet would be on XenForo. That would be a hoot and a holler right there! Don't get me wrong, I love XenForo and would definitely get a license if I could afford it, but if it were to be free, and when you consider the fact that there's not much to XenForo just yet, that would definitely lose the definition of the term uniqueness, that's for sure. Unless of course someone was really talented and created their own theme for their site...

Really? MyBB won't die until i'm into Foruming. 😛
Trust me, i would NOT move from MyBB to Xenforo, even if you give me a free license of it.

Though i agree, its the best PAID forum script around, and if i was you Chris, i would sell the VB and IPB licenses and get Xenforo.
VB and IPB looks the same as free ones like MyBB, phpBB, etc.

I don't see why everyone loves Xenforo so much, I admit, its nice to join a forum with it installed, but what about software such as Burning Boards? Its half the price at only $70, automatic mobile compatibility, the ability to detect duplicate threads and a lot more features that XenForo lacks. Oh, and did I mention it is out of Beta, and has more plugins and themes?

Trust me, that would never happen in a million years. People use certain softwares because they prefer it over anything else.

Seeing as VB and IPB were here first, the free alternatives try to imitate the paid ones because they look up to them as an inspiration. 😀

MyBB is a relative newcomer, but phpBB is oldschool. It's definitely older than IPB, dunno about vB

I don't know about you but the thing I don't like at all about XenForo is the way they display how many posts/topics there are. I like when those have their own separate column with the post info, and etc.

lol. Vb was started in 1999, phpBB in 2000 and both IPboard and MyBB begun in 2002.
So, there is no way, free ones are imitating paid ones.
And moreover, considering what VB done to Xenforo, i don't think the paid ones would allow their scripts to be imitated.

Well if you count Ikonboard (also made by Matt Mecham), then its been around longer. He branched off & made IPB 3 years later.

Maybe. But i don't think the free ones imitated them. As i said, if the free ones did so, then the paid ones will file a case like they did on Xenforo.

myBB reminds me a lot of vBulletin (3.x.x). You can tell they tried to implement some ideas from them. They dont have to use the same coding to produce the same looking output.

lol. Every forum software have some similarities. That doesn't mean they copied those ideas. That means, those ideas are common for forum scripts.
