Thinking of a new social network

So, I am thinking about opening a new social network. I do realize that it will not compete with Facebook or MySpace, but I am still thinking about it and I would like to request your ideas.

What would you like to see in a new social network?
What features do you dislike from Facebook/MySpace?
What aspects of Facebook/MySpace would like to improve on?

Besides the above, any ideas and comments are welcome.

Myspace is trash now in my opinion. The only thing I don't like about facebook is how they keep changing things, they just need to stick to something.

So, if you are going to make a social network don't constantly change the layout of it every 6 months 😛 lol

I don't think you can just create a new social network based on the flaws of the current ones. The current ones have taken years to be established and have massive user bases. It gives them the power to change whatever or exclude whatever without crowds of people leaving.

You are going to have to come up with something unique; if the current ones see possible improvements and they are the core features of your one, then you will lose big time.

IMO your best chance of success would be to create a social network for a particular niche, i.e. not a general one that would compete with FB. E.g. you could create a social network for musicians.

Do you plan on a niche approach?

A niche approach is something that I am considering as well.

Could possibly make it about both music and sports, but not sure how that would work either

I have no problems when facebook changes the design, but I think it would be fair if users could choose one of the older layouts; which is something facebook doesn't do.
Also, the thing I think Myspace is better with, is the design. It let's you change everything, the background and all of that good stuff... but facebook doesn't let you do that.

So, I suggest.

• Layouts should be switchable
• Theme/layout should be customizable.

This is a wonderful idea in my opinion. Worst part is I'm not good at publicising. Bad at that :/

Well, what do you all mean by a sports based social network? Are you referring to a site to discuss sports, organize sports activities or what?

I am in the process of coding a social network, have done it before and I'm starting again with a much better design. 1000x better looking than Facebook. 🙂

My idea is not really to compete with FB or MySpace, but add a choice to users.
And since I don't code, I am using already coded softwares
