This angers me a bit...

Wait so what do the cents mean? Is that how much we donate each year?

For every $100 dollars that a US citizen makes, part of the taxes that get taken out, only 18 cents is donated.

There are other countries in the world?

I had no idea.

 Yes, severely uneducated Hobo, there is. 😛

It just pisses me off that we make the most money, almost in the world, and we can't even share a quarter?

Oh, I found a map! Yay! I'm learning!

@Snobo: Bottom left: I believe that "Something Else" is called "Limbo." 😛

That's all from 2006. I'm talking about now. The graph I provided is recent. It's still ridiculous that we can only donate 18 cents out of every $100.

Americans can be a lot of bad things, but as a nation the American people are very generous.

In 2006, our economy wasn't being held by it's balls, dangled over the edge of the Statue of Liberty.

That is the most amazing thing I've heard all day!!!!!

I'm going to stick up for Australia. When in times of a humanitarian crisis in the Pacific, Australia gives the most out of any other country in the world. Times like the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, no other country donated like the Australians, and the main Aid organisation, AusAID, needed to "refund" some money as we were over donating.

It shows some inaccuracies, like Australia being a relatively newer country than the others, and so the amount we donate will be staggered over time.

Australians also aren't too greedy to pay higher taxes so that less people have to die or declare bankruptcy due to health care crises.

Once again, you are looking at once specific charitable cause, and yes maybe 18 cents out of each 100$ goes to that specific place. And correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems to be based on government assistance. If you look at all of the world disasters, american aid is tremendous, and normally superior to other foreign aid. Look at your normal TV commercials for things like the "Christans Childrens Fund"... where does most of that money come from... private US citizens.

Here is your most recent disaster... Haiti.

Scroll down a tad, as a "Country" the US donated more than triple what the second largest country (Canada) donated.

You are basing your argument on one specific charity based on what looks to be government donations. The government is in a pinch right now, but I can take a pretty educated guess that private american citizens are still donating more to poverty (Christians Childrens fund and those alike) than any other country in the world.

The USA also has nearly ten times as many people as Canada.

Look in the next column and see the amount of money donated per person. The US donated $1.484 dollars per person, whereas Canada donated $3.894 per person. Norway donated $5.257 per person. We can all learn something from them, as the world as a whole donated 35 cents per person.

I can not disagree with that. Per person and per capita the US lags behind, and probably always will... but the end result is usually the US donating the most in total. The country can not even take care of its own poor but always has money to shell out to the rest of the world.

It's sad that so much american aid is unapprecieated and just "expected" to be there. I wonder what would happen during national disasters if America just kinda sat out. Without the american money, mobility, and manpower... would the response be a fast or done as well? How many more lives would be lost if America didn't pony up and take the brunt of the workload?

Sure America doesn't give the most per person, but with the unemployment rate how it is and so many people on the streets now... many don't have two nickels to rub together. And you can't forget that america is the most generous country in the world (Yes some people say it's the Europeon Union but how many countries is that now?) and we certainly can't meet a certain percent of our GDP being given to each cause when so many have their monthly 20$ popped out for each foreign child they are sponsoring.

America is the most generous country on the planet and will continue to be because it is expected. I personally would like to take care of this country for a bit then be that superpower we were and have the ability again to donate the way that the country used to. Just think of how much the US would donate if the economy wasn't tanked and the government so far in debt?
