This angers me a bit...

America is the most charitable nation in the world. You have identified one charitable cause but money wise we give the more than any other nation on the planet to charities and disaster relief.

Americans can be a lot of bad things, but as a nation the American people are very generous.
I completely agree. USA gives tons and tons of relief, even tons privately (as opposed to govern't aid), and nobody ever helps us when we're in crisis. Hurricane Katrina nobody helped out, not even the evil Republican president.

USA does give the most, but countries did attempt to aid in Katrina. The administration did not let the aid pass and was determined to handle the issue internally... which they did... eventually.

The thing is though, the only reason we give the most is because of our massive population. Us as citizens are still greedy, because we can't be bothered to throw out like $5-10 to help other countries. I think I know the majority of the reason why. Because most countries we help out, turn around a try to destroy us.

Then where are China and India when it comes to this? They both have more than 1 billion people.

That's where they're just greedy, once again, they have more people, and they could help a hell of a lot more than we could. They just don't' want to give up a few dollars per person to help other countries.

We really don't have a giant population. There are smaller countries with a much greater population. But yes america tends to be expected to help, then ridiculed if they do not give what the rest of the world deems as enough, then that country ends up hating america later.

China is quite a ways down the list. They pretty much admit they don't give a crap about the world and no ones gives them any crap about it. If america did this they would be calling for heads.

Exactly why I wont donate money to many countries. I wanted to donate to the Haiti disaster because of how poor they are. Unlike the middle Eastern countries where they're just stupid enough to spend their government money on bombs.

Exactly, the world EXPECTS that America help them out or we're asking for trouble.

You're saying a country like India could help out more and that they're greedy? Sure, there are lots of people who are well off in India and have lots of money, but for each one of them there are lots of people living in the slums.

Countries have their own problems to deal with first... if they were to FIRST give money to other countries in need and then support their own they'd be stupid, and gone soon.

I never even said India. :/ I was talking about China.

EDIT: Oh, I didn't even see that he said India. xD My bad. I was meaning China.

Well america is still around and has constantly given billions to other countries in need while our own people get put out on the street because of foreclosures. It's a double standard... America is perceived to be full of gluttonous millionaires when really there are more lower and middle class people here that can't meet ends meet and go unhelped because America must help the rest of the globe.

Which is partly why we're in the situation we're in now. We don't have enough money to help our own people. For example the state of MA for the 2% of people who didn't have health insurance had to borrow $50 Million just to cover them under our state insurance.

Let's look at this from another view...

Why do we donate at all? There's nothing forcing us to. Do I really give a damn about people in third world countries? To be complete honest, I really don't. I have my own problems to deal with, my family is well over 20k in debt personally. You expect me to give away even MORE money, on top of the taxes already being taken out and the increasing cost of living? As a kid it's great to sit there and think "wow, these people are making $500 a week and aren't giving but a few dollars to those in need. The fat pigs!" - Just keep in mind that out of that $2000 monthly you have the electric bill, the water bill, the gas bill, the cable bill, the Internet bill, the HOUSE bill, and surprise medical bills for an average family of 4. Money gets tight even in the best of times, not just when our bawls are in a pinch.

*Note: I'm not saying people shouldn't donate if they have the money, but i'm saying expecting people top donate without viewing their entire situation is just stupid.

No, what I'm saying is, that link that's on the first post is what the GOVERNMENT decided that they would help, and they haven't even came close to reaching they're goals.

If you haven't noticed we are in kind of a money situation right now....

I agree with you, death180, we are in a money situation right now.

i don't see why we should donate more than 1000 dollars if we can't even get out of our own hole..

I must agree with you, I find that awfully greedy, even for America. Surely it wouldn't kill them to donate more money for a good cause.

The US donates the most globally. Enough said. We are using the rest of the money to try to revive the GLOBAL economy.
