I've also got a weird topic on my webmaster forum that has received over 1200 views since December 08,2008, and it's the only 1000+ views thread on the entire forum.
It is probably bots (search and spam) as if it is indexed by google these bots will find it and will index it and count towards the hits. There are some robots that go around to domains on the internet and look for files for software that you don't even have installed and they are programmed to spam or exploit that particular file.
A good way of seeing if they're bots or not is to put a robots.txt file into the root directory of your file system (click here for more info). Any hits you get after that would be from real people who have either read this topic, yourself or somebody has randomly typed your domain into the address bar to see if something would come up.
wow congrats, my site bandwidth is considerably high, I've barely promoted, and don't have many members so I'm guessing bots are sucking up my site bandwidth...not really paid attention to how many hits my site has actually had
Most hits on sites are probably generated by bots. There is no real way to stop them other then using robots.txt to limit them but even then not all bots follow that either.
