Has anyone noticed, but not only are there less places to chat, but most chatters between the
age of like 15-25 act like ASL or boyfriend/girlfriend scenerios are all that matter?! It seems
to me like the media, as well as some of the cliques or gangs are helping dumb down society.
I don't really like chat rooms when I used Yahoo Computer Help chatroom. There were occasionally some dumb chatters who randomly come into the chat and call us all computer nerds, or something mean because we're all into computers.
I had to say something like "Dude, your're a computer nerd, too because you're using a computer to insult us." then they leave or say some more dumb stuff.
I believe a vigilantly moderated chat room can add a heck of a lot to an active forum community. There's something distinctive and a wee bit more forthcoming about chatting in real time.
There is a difference between chat rooms that actually serve a purpose and ones that are just for people to go and say, "hi im lookin 4 a gf lololololololol."
The sad part is that most of them these days lean toward the latter.
Only time I chat is using MSN and I use it for either chatting with other webmasters about marketing methods, forums, etc or as hosting support -happy- . There are ways to earn a good amount of $$ if you know how through chat rooms 😉
I agree niche chat rooms are pretty good. I learned a lot about computers by chatting with people in computer chat rooms, but the only problem with visiting computer chat rooms are the disrespectful people who come in and say dumb things like "You're all nerds, you guys should get a life! etc" like those bullies in High School.
