Would you consider an imageboard software? Perhaps, you would want to develop one?
Personally, I think the imageboard concept needs a serious restructure before it can be considered for production use. Furthermore, the reputation of 4chan would likely give the wrong impression to any new imageboard website.
4Chan is still popular and won’t be dying out anytime soon.
Creating another Image-Board that is identical or very Similar to 4Chan would make it seem like a Clone or 4Chan.
There are plenty of Image-Board Softwares out there so you can easily create one. As long as you know what you’re getting into as Image-Boards are different from Forums.
4chan is turning into garbage because of the fact the current owner of it basically bought it in 2016 or so to datamine and slap monetisation everywhere. To be honest, I've posted on a couple of altchans before (most prominently one owned by a longtime internet friend of mine which actually has quite a cosy /b/), but never took the time to actually post around 4chan. The speed of threads is far too fast and it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable.
Now if I have to be honest, all Image-Boards pretty much are the same. You post an Image alongside some Text and wait for the Replies to start coming in.
And what about the Dark-Side of Image-Boards? Look at 4Chan's History and disturbing Stories of what's been posted on there. People have posted Links to Locations, People have posted Corpses, Somebody even posted a Picture of an Alien on the Politics Board and had the entire Site down for Maintenance!
Now while Image-Boards have both a Good and Bad Reputation, they won't be replacing Forums and Forums will not be replacing them either. The both will still have Life in them for quite awhile(I'd say that Forums would last about another 7 - 10 Years and Image-Boards, about 9 - 12 Years).
