Most know Google as the leading search engine and provider of many things such as:
-AdSense
-Gmail
-Books
-YouTube
-Maps
-Blogger
-AdWords
And many more..

Google has pretty much failed in the social network and media scheme (a.k.a. Google Videos and Buzz), so now Google is trying to acquire Twitter. Which will probably be (another) site ruined by their purchase. They had bought Blogger from Twitter in the past, and now they are looking to buy the whole Twitter Company/Site. They have been put down several times however, is having negotiations right now. Meaning Daddy is pulling out the checkbook.

So how do you like Google? They are sort of like the 'empire of the internet' to me. They want to acquire things they cannot make, or make better.

They fucked youtube up so bad when they got bought out. 15 second advertisements before every video now... YAY! Every other video being blocked for copyright.. YAY! Every other video being "flagged as inappropriate" YAY!

Regardless of it's recent disappointments, there just isn't any site/company that could successfully rebel against Google nowadays, in terms of providing a chain of services under one name. They would either be too small or too focused at doing one thing. I've seen much bigger disasters, eg. Bebo and MySpace's popularity, Bing, Ask and MSN losing their search market share.

Although there are some unlikeable things, there are way more positive things. For example, Spyka is earning $100 per day with Adsense. Both Publishers and Advertisers are getting good return rates/outcomes.

YouTube hasn't been greatly affected. I don't see how a 15 second advertisement will deter you from eventually watching that video; let alone I have only encountered 15 second advert videos from HQ/D videos, which are from the company, ie. the real copy, not some recorded version from a homemade video maker. At least we don't have to pay out of pocket for using YouTube.

To one person, Google may have ruined a site, but to another, it may have been better. It's all too subjective. I think Google has done a great job getting this far, from a partnership of 2, to now one of the world's biggest companies.

Also, to be fair, Google has it easy, because of its lack of competitive competition. There may be competition, but it's way too small. Yahoo would be the closest thing to Google, and yet they've only got around 15% of the search market share; nothing compared to about 70-80% of Google's, meaning Google is able to afford more. If there is some other company that can come close to Google, in terms of its network of sites, then Google would probably back off from it's ability to easily buy companies, eg. YouTube.

I'm just waiting to see if they start trying to buy Bing from Microsoft, Which in turn would get part of Yahoo's search engine. Unless Microsoft will still retain the right, and not "Bing".

There are so many other companies then Google getting stuff.

In 2009, Microsoft got access to Yahoo's search engine for there project, Bing.

Microsoft Possibly partnering up with adobe.

Cisco exec is the new CEO of Skype

Facebook and Skype's Integration Partnership.

Firefox partnering with Bing.

I could keep going, But I'm running out of names.

People just look at Google and You tube, Because people use them daily, Watching video's, Searching on Google, Emailing, Messaging friends on You tube.

But, Thing is Google needs twitter now. I haven't seen any news report of Google trying to get twitter, Only Google needs to get twitter.

But, twitter CEO's and COO already sold two companies to Google, Also, They may or may not keep the same Employees if they do get Twitter. But i know for one thing, They will most likely never have those twitter overload things.

I get 15 second ads on almost every video I watch :\ most of them are weird, funny videos, or music/home recorded music.

The thing is, when Google has a site, it always revolves around one idea. Everything thing they do, they do at the same time, it is consistent. When an huge upgrade is made to part A of a site, part B on another is too.

If you owned YouTube, tell me you wouldn't do the same thing Google did. The amount of money they make from advertisements is ridiculous. Anyone would do that.

Hmm, Think about this, At least google didn't just put all of youtube on to google video instead they kept it by it's self.

Google has a good search engine, e-mail service, and blogging service, but I havn't been a huge fan of their social networks like Orkut, Buzz, etc.

I saw a video on Youtube which said Youtube Partners can disable in-video ads on all their video, but many popular Youtube partners rarely disable in-video ads since they rather make a few cents-dollars per click then let their viewers and subscribers have a better video viewing experience while watching their video. I wish Youtube just stuck to banner advertising, text ads since they are a lot less annoying then commercials at the beginning of videos and in-video ads.

Can I just say this? How has 'Google' failed the social media, last time I checked Youtube is the leader in social media.

And @ The person who said waiting for them to also buy Bing, that will never happen as it's now Msn's official search.

50% of Google's programs are created through a system called 20% time, which means that all employees get 20% of their time working for Google to work on private projects such as these.

Because Google bought Youtube. They did not create Youtube. They created Buzz: it is being closed down. They created Orkut: the experience they wanted wasn't there and nobody really cared for it.

I understand that they purchased it, But... You have to keep in mind the original YouTube creators only owned the website from 2005-2006 meaning it was just a year of their ownership, So in some sense you have to give credit to Google for maintaining and yes adding stuff on YouTube

I don't see how they "fail" at social media. Google Reader is a form of social media (RSS feed reader) and it has been actively working since 2007.

They just do

Once Google buys Twitter/(lol if they bought FB that would be nice 😛) and other popular sites, maybe AddThis or Sharaholic, I'd be happy!!

*****Google Fanboy here*****

Google bans you even if you state who the copyright belongs too. Its so ridiculous.. I'm now perm banned from YouTube because I uploaded a video AND stated who it belonged too, but yet they wanted to be bastards and ban me.

Google is simple, it does it's job and YouTube is a cool site and so is Maps. Not a bad site but I've never Blogger and never intend to. *simples*

I uploaded a video that wasn't mine. Of course, it was a friend's video, and since they don't have internet at their house, they asked me to upload it. I stated his name so other people would know. I didn't get any kind of warning/ban at all, and it almost has 1k views.

Very nice all this stories, but when it's the time when everybody will go to?

I think to Google again.

Edit: For 2010 Google is a win win situation with the %66 percent of the search engine market.
