I've been thinking of using it, but I wanna hear what you guys think of it. I've grown fond of it recently because of the capabilities it has that I haven't seen before in other forum softwares.

SMF is by far my favorite free forum software, I really dont get why everyone likes phpbb and mybb more. I used to run a forum off of it and currently run a forum using it. Never had any problems with it.

Two things I like are the moderator comments for reports, and the moderator watch list. 🙂

I have it on RocketTech.

I've used mybb and phpbb nothing is as good as smf, smf offers a subscription modification without installation and other great free features

10/10

I used smf for like for years , its easy to use, mods are easy to install but the negative part(not sure how much they advanced as i didnt use them for a year) is that they dont have some good mods like mybb or other softwares have.

You could have always someone code specific mods you want, but all depends on the financial aspects.

SMF is great especially for installing Mods you do not have to look for your ass with both hands and a flashlight. I have used it but it is just to plain and the themes for it suck it's a lot like Phpbb and Mybb in that regard. But then its up to the user what do they like? You like it use it. No matter what anyone else thinks.

Ive used SMF on a forum in the past, it was nice and easy to use.

Used SMF on my old forum, really great but I'm glad I had a tech admin, I don't think it's hard for most people but I just can't seem to pick up the admin side of forums these days, I stick to promoting now.

SMF is a fantastic forum software. It is simpler than Mybb (and obviously phpbb) to use. You can also get great themes on SMF (here is one theme ship: http://demo.dzinerstudio.com). I personally prefer Mybb to SMF though.

Its ok for either starting a forum or for a newbie but I am not too fond on SMF and doubt I ever will be.

I used to dislike SMF. I thought it has a strange layout, even stranger than phpBB or MyBB default theme. A while ago I built a forum with a friend who later became the tech of the forum, and she installed SMF. I was annoyed but I couldn't protest because she was the tech.

After using it for a while, I changed my opinion about SMF. Though the appearance may not be as pretty as phpBB or MyBB (unless you buy a premium theme from DzinerStudio for example or design on yourself), it surely is simple and easy to use. Maybe because I have a tech so I don't worry too much about managing it. Looks like tweaking themes from ACP is rather troublesome, but other functions work fine. I agree that I like the advanced features which you can turn on or off as you like without installing mods as they are among the most used features.

Good luck with SMF! 🙂

I haven't used SMF in a few years, but when I did use it, I had mixed feelings about it. The only theme I really liked was the default purple theme. Plugins were very easy to install, especially on the free host version, and I just liked the over all ease of use and I loved the layout. I actually like the layout of SMF better than phpBB even! I'm only using phpBB because it's what I'm accustomed to and what I'm used to using as a Webmaster.

SMF is quite unique as a software solution for sure. I personally love it, and I don't really understand what so many people have against it.

However, I recently converted my forum to MyBB, partly because the work involved in making my SMF forum look professional was just too much. MyBB has most of the features that I need in forum software out of the box, and it ended up being simpler for me to convert. I had specific needs anyhow, so the customizability of myBB was a huge factor.

For forums with commercial needs, I think that SMF remains the leader in free forum software.

Why would you say that? SMF is great for developers as they can take full advantage of the software and its security.

I agree SMF is great though you need to have some coding skills if you want to make it legendary if not SMF can actually let you create an amazing community. I mean there are so many mods for it (the themes might look a bit dull but you can fix them easy) so I still consider SMF one of the best free software and i think ill make my forum with smf if i dont get the money for xenforo
