I think it is a cool idea. I wonder would Steambox console owners get a discount when buying games on Steam for being a loyal costumer since they bought a Steambox instead of installing Steam on a non-Steambox PC console like a regular computer and laptop.

It would be cool if the Steambox can also use other software like office suites, web browsers, and other non-gaming software since I heard the Steambox will use a version of Linux. Linux also has a lot of free software for it for people to use.

The Steambox has been confirmed. You'll be able to use it for a variety of things, yes.

But IMO, the theoretical cost is way too high. It's going to cost an estimated $999. The point of the Steambox is the controller, which is modular, so you can modify it to the game. One could also remove the controller's parts and rearrange them. I'm primarily negative in my attitude regarding the Steambox/Piston.

I heard there would be a $500 version which graphics are console quality, and the $999 version is the better version for people who want better graphics.

I think as long as the video in games does not skip/lag, and is in 3D and looks like video from the Xbox 360 for the $500 version, there would be people who buy Steambox rather then a $500 HP, Acer, or Dell PC which might be worse for gaming because a lot of OEM PC Makers like Dell use slower integrated video on their computers mother board for PCs which cost $500 or less, and Dell, Acer, etc sometimes install a ton of un-needed software like Norton or McAffee Antivirus on their PCs making them slower.

Building a computer and installing Ubuntu for playing Steam games would be cheapest, but a lot of people don't know how to build a computer, and install Ubuntu and the Linux Steam client on their PC.
