In this tutorial, we'll go over three simple, cool text effects that may prove useful to you in your upcoming designs. We'll be going simplest to most difficult. Our first tutorial will deal entirely with blending options, our second with a few slightly more difficult controls, and in our third, will be manipulating our effect pixel by pixel.
Our first text effect will be a subtle bevel that works best on a darkish background.
Create a new document in photoshop. I used the dimensions 600 x 200.
Press Shift + Delete (doesn't matter what color you select) and click OK or press enter to fill your entire document with a color.
Your Photoshop document should now be filled with a color. Double click this layer to open its blending options panel. Select gradient overlay and simulate these settings. The lighter color is #3a073c and the darker color is #2a042c.
Now it's time to add some text. Any fluid sans serif font should work well. Your text must be #f4f4f4 before you apply any blending options to it.
Double click the text and apply the following blending options.
