If you're traveling for your vacation, what time of day to you prefer to start?

We're early people and like to be on the road by 5am.

I prefer to be up super early and to start traveling as early as possible. This way my wife and I can arrive at our destination early so we can have more time to enjoy our vacation.

Me too! When going to Florida we'd leave at 4 in the morning to beat the highway crowds.

Im a nightmare because I can’t stand early morning starts but on the other hand I’m not a late night person and get really cranky/start to feel really sick when I’m over tired! I’m more a let’s get up and go by 9 kinda guy but be there before 6pm 🤦🏼‍♂️

I like to travel in the early early AM when the roads are nice and empty, get some good mileage in during those hours.

I've never really traveled much for vacations, but if I did, I would prefer to head to my destination when the traffic is lighter, in the early morning hours or late at night. I'm more of a night person anyways, so it'd line up better with my (preferred) sleep schedule, and I could plan my trip around getting there early/late to also be able to leave early/late to return home.

About a couple years ago, I went to help a sister store a couple hours away right before Christmas because of staffing, and it was a spur of the moment thing, so I ended up leaving in the early afternoon. I was admittedly a little worried about the traffic because it was right before Christmas, but I thankfully didn't run into much traffic going up. Stayed the night up in the area and returned home after working Christmas Eve, leaving I think somewhere around 5-6pm (I remember it was already dark but the store hadn't closed yet), and traffic thankfully wasn't bad coming back either. I was surprised because I was expecting it to be a lot worse, but I was also thankful because I was able to get home without having to deal with any crazy traffic.

I would have thought those days would have had a lot of traffic too! Crazy.

We traveled on Christmas Eve by plane one time and it was actually a good experience! The security wanted to get everyone through quickly, so we didn't have to do all the procedures except walk through the x-ray machines. I'd fly on Christmas Eve again if I really had to do it.

Every time I've flown it always seems to result in missing a night's sleep in both directions because of delays or poor planning on my part.

My worst experience was flying from London to California via Maine during the Xmas period. Door to door it took the best part of three days.
