Time-Zone Consideration

When hiring staff do you look for a staffing team that is spread across different timezones to try and ensure someone is always online? I have seen this before but I felt it was unfair as some amazing candidates were not picked just because of their geographical postion.

Nope, I really don't mind where they are from because some people are amazing what they do and it's unfair to disadvantage people in application because they was in a different time zone. It could put the person who is hiring in a bad position because other people think he will be too strict and don't want to work for him.

I do consider it but it doesn't bother me and rather pick the right guy with good knowledge and if you do have staff at different time zones it won't make any difference since that staff person might not be active on that day. My two staff members are in America anyway.

Also to consider that I can be 24 hours 🙂 it can be link to your phone/emails and the outcome that if there is anything wrong or whatever the following staff will be on it. I did some things couple times at 3am

I don't usually consider time zones when it came to staff members, as I have found that if asked, some people would be willing enough to be on during certain times of the day that might need a extra hand to help things out.

I have staff members that stretch four corners of the globe, works out great, as there is always someone there to help out of a problem arises. I think it is good to plan it that way

well there are some websites that needs to have staff members in each time zones to do live support chat, so I agree with that.

On my forums staff team application I request applicants to put down their timezone but that's more for knowing when they'll be available and when to communicate. It is nice if you have near 24 hour staff coverage of your forum but that doesn't normally happen until your forum is much older and established.
