Tipping

I wonder how many restaurant staff have been written up and/or fired because of the complaints that you "go out of your way" to make against them. 😱

I wouldn't know. If wait staff is that miserable though they need a wake up call, get your act together or find a new job.

That's cold.

Not really. Based on the rest of Sharon's post, she only complains about really horrible service. That's not the same as going out of your way to complain about the little things. If customers are getting that poor service from a server, the manager should know about it. If the manager is never made aware of it, the situation will never improve, and that will cost both the restaurant and other servers money if those customers never return.

I tip $5 or 15%, whichever is more, for both delivery drivers and servers. Possibly more/less for good/bad service. If you're in North America, it's important to tip because they usually are paid a wage below minimum wage and rely on tips. I don't think that applies in most other places.

How do you know that's a constant issue though? That poor sever could be having one off night and you go off and get them fired over it. Give people the benefit of the doubt.

Now if it's a restaurant you frequent and you get the same bad service from the same person over and over again, then go complain.

I'm just not into ruining someone's life over being mildly inconvenienced one time out to eat.

I agree, you got to give the benefit of the doubt, unless that person has given bad service before to you. Maybe people don't like being nice because customers are so rude to them all the time and complain about everything. Plus restaurant staff probably don't get paid that much anyway and if you get them fired they might not get another job like that. Thankfully in this country, we have benefits, so that person would be on jobseeker's until you get another job. While in the US, you might be screwed.
