I need idea's on tips and tricks for promoting a movie forum. I've got traffic from Postloop.com coming in as just purchased 100 points. I have a couple of topsite entries and have advertised on a few forums and have my signature on a couple of movie forums.

What else do you think I should do to try and gain more activity? It's doing well at the moment as a week old and 60 members already but I would like more content posted.

I also submit this to both my facebook and twitter day to day when I can.

Like when I read tips and tricks I've done what people say.

Have you posted on any other movie related forums or blogs with a link in your signature / profile?

You could ask your local cinema and DVD rental stores if they'd allow you to put up a small poster, perhaps give them a small ad on your forum in return. Explain to them that a movie forum encourages people to watch movies which would be good for their business and that you in no way compete with them.

It's hard for teens to get publicity in the real world due to media constantly holding us back.
I've tried first hand, it's not easy but if you managed to get something like what Fergal said that would work wonders.

Also, SEO is a good way to go in the long run. Try and BUY active members, might see like a weird and uncommon concept but it works well 🙂

🙂 I already know how to do that. ;P

Though Jay you are 17 and I'm 19 so I might get better media due to age. Maybe? ;P

I do not believe in active/active or active/$

If they wish to be active they just do. I've got a few people already active but matters like school etc come and go.

It is going to take time, no matter what forum you are running. Having good SEO and ranking decent on search engines is what is going to get you consistent traffic in the long run. To get more people right now is going to be hard. If you are really desperate you can try individually contacting people from other movie forums and politely asking them to check yours out. But that could get you banned on those forums, so I do not recommend it.

Either way, we're both teens?

It's worth a try though 🙂

I don't believe the media will hold you back just because of your age. If you have the money to pay for ads they will take that money once you are of legal age to enter into a contract with them. Also it's my experience that stories of very young people achieving something makes for interesting news from a media perspective. Hence, the media will sometimes give free publicity to a story like that.

First thing is first, and that is targeting your main google keywords and align your site to place well in those terms. While you wait, post on other forums with your terms linked with the proper anchor text in your signature.

After that... just patience.
