Hey, I'm sorta new to the forum business from the start I usualy join forums that have been around for a while and has members. This time I am currently in development creating a new community. RealityFX, I am creating a custom skin, adding mods etc. So what i am asking which is the best way to start a forum? What I am doing is setting a Grand opening for my forum and advertise for it as much as possible so on the day it opens everyone will check it out.. do you think that is a good approach or should I try something else and share some other tips please..

Hey, welcome to FP! And the wonderful world of adminship.

I can't really give specifics, but this section .. viewforum.php?f=22

^^ has ALOT of useful info worth checking out. I recommend skimming the topic titles of a few pages in that section.

ive seen that.. its great I know. But do you have any tips on when starting a community which is the main things that attracts them. In my opinion i think its the skin, content and activity...

I think you gotta have content they want. Then they will keep coming back for more. If it's something that other sites have to offer, they won't care as much unless you're really busy. To get there, start with something fresh.

Make sure to have a good skin. Many forums lose registrations because of the way it looks. Making it attractive, easy to read can higher the chances of people staying and registering.

Don't have too many forums to start off, add forums while your site grows bigger. Having too many will make your forum look dead.

And be sure to post exchanges here at forum promotion, really worth your time! :great:

Thanks. What I am currently doing now is setting A Grand opening day. So my forum shows a counter counting down to when our forum is open for members to post. While its offline for members etc we are recruiting staff to help the admins post around in the forums to get ready for opening day so members can fill them up. Also we are creating a real shop selling clothing aswell as a Virtual shop where you can use forum points to upgrade your account and on posting day you can use your points to buy stuff to upgrade your account or win prizes such as T-Shirts etc for getting most posts... Do you think that is a good Idea? and when we start the get members and everything on our to do list is finished me and another admin were going to create a custom skin. Well? sound good or do you think I Should go at it in a differnt approach?
