Tips to get Guests to join?

I'd say make some more interesting topics in the forums to A) make the forums look more active, and more appealing to guests B) run a contest relating to your forum.
 
Once a week put up a big notice to guests saying join today for whatever free gift you want to give them.
 
Give them a reason to join, a contest might work well, to give them that extra little push required.

Are you talking about this forum? I only have one thing in the Basic Promotion.
We do have a contest, but that's not working either.
 
First of all i suggest you get a proper domain that's easy to remember. I've often been to sites that i want to go back to but my simply cant remember the web address and searching through my history is just too much hard work 😛 Also there are probably some people who don't even know they can look through their history for past sites. Then i'd do what everyone else has done and create some popular topics. It's taken me nearly 3 months to get 180 members and 5100 posts. It's very hard work but just keep at it.

Anywhere on the Internet. If you're just relying on FP to get you a lot of activity, then I can assure you won't be able to; no one can. It's always a mixture of advertisements, promotion and just getting your link around, like social networking. Have you tried those?
 
If you have e-mail activation for new users, you can consider turning E-mail activation off, and just use a simple captcha system which stop spambots, but is easy to read like ReCaptcha.

I read posts on other forums which said people sometimes forget to activate their account, or the activation e-mail got lost/never arrived or went to their spam inbox for their e-mail.

Also, people might type in their e-mail incorrectly for some reason, and the activation e-mail was sent to the wrong address.

You can have contests, useful content, services, and do stuff for people who want to join your forums.

One of the main reasons I am a active member of FP is because of the great services like "sig advertisement, posting packages, reviews, and helpful content for managing my forum.".

Ask your friends and family to join your forum to be active for a few weeks, or use paid forum posting services to post on forums.

Post exchanges also might make your forum more active. This will make guest more willing to join.
 
Proper Domain
Fill up the forums with more topics by you and all 3 of your staff.
Contest - Make sure to offer them something worthwhile though.
Promote the forum not just here, but around other various forums too.

Add a welcome box, stating what the benefits are of joining.
 
I also seen some forum which let Facebook users log-in with their Facebook Username and Password.

But, I only seen it on Invision powered 3.0 forums. I think giving people alternate ways to log-in to your Forum like "Facebook Connect" can increase your post count.

Though, it might lead to more spam, troll posts and replys.
