Okay, for about three years now, ever since I got my very first MP3 player when I was in high school, Windows Media Player has always been my music player of choice as far as putting music on MP3/iPods goes, and well, I finally had enough of it. Went to clean out my WMP today so I could just have my favorite Michael W. Smith songs on my iPod, and only Michael W. Smith, but when I went to delete the extras, like Aaron Carter and all of them, they only just got thrown back on there! What the heck is this? I want AC and the rest of them GONE. Not building up like a load of dust, and I'm also sick of those sample songs as well. So I went on Google and looked for a Media Player that was just as easy to use, if not easier, and I stumbled across Media Monkey, and I'm giving that a go as we speak. A bit too professional for my liking, but it does what I want it to do so I really have no complaints otherwise so far. The interesting part will be when I try to sync the songs to my Sony MP3 player. I'm curious to see how that will go over.

So what media players have you tried in the past? Are they still suiting your needs to this day, or have you given up on it and gone to something else? If you have switched over, what one are you using?

Use VLC Media Player for video files, haven't looked back since I started using it. For music mostly itunes.

Windows Media Player is horribly bloated. I love using it on my Windows 98 computer, though, because it has Windows Media Player 5. WMP 5 was light and fast. I wish they wouldn't have given it such a bloated interface.

I just use my iPod for music. I don't usually use this kind of thing for videos all too often. That's probably why I was stubborn with VLC was because it was more for video files than music files. I'll have to keep that in mind sometime.

I was pretty little when Windows Media Player 5 was released, and I didn't get my first MP3 Player till I was a sophomore in high school. But I do agree with you that the newer ones, like the one that comes with Windows 7, is just overbloated and way too packed with features. As I said, I'm giving Media Monkey a go and I'm loving it so far. My favorite thing about it is if your song information doesn't come up right away, there's a deal where you can right click and it comes out with possible options relating to the album that you have in your computer. I've had a couple MWS albums where the files wouldn't load at first, but I right clicked on the "😀" part, and from there it gave me options of his albums that I might have. I just selected the album version that looked about right and went from there. MM still has a lot of crap on it, but it's not as bloated as Windows Media Player, though. Curious to see what the part where it syncs your songs is like.

Winamp is pretty good as well if you use the classic skin.

Re: Tired of Windows Media Player... switched to something e

I have been using winamp on my windows machine for audio files.

I use banshee on linux for audio files.

For video files I use VLC.

I have used the same programs for about 2 years now.

I tried Winamp and it was just too confusing for me, to be honest. Not sure if I'm getting the hang of Media Monkey either. The finding the locations for the album art was pretty easy, but will it show up after I sync is going to be the big one.

Re: Tired of Windows Media Player... switched to something e

AIMP2. Got nothing else to add.

Re: Tired of Windows Media Player... switched to something e

Well, I finally figured out how MM works. It only syncs one album at a time. Not sure what to think but eventually I'll get used to it.

I wouldn't bother using Windows Media Player if they didn't blow it right out of the "liking" of choice. We always have to get used to something now and then, but they took the new WMP too far, I'd assume. I'd open mine up to see what it had become.

Ugh.

Well, that's why I ditched WMP. Too much crap to work with and it was just pathetic. I'm kind of itching to try the video player one, though!

 Everyone has their own preferences, you know!

I almost tried a DVD ripper/converter so I could have a DVD on my iPod, but gave that up as it took too long to wait, plus I was doing this on my laptop as well, so that's not exactly good for that either. I think I'll just stick to music.

http://www.foobar2000.org/ is a simple, fast, and clean looking MP3 player which I use for Windows.

When I'm using a Linux based operating system, I usually use VLC, RythmBox, or Banshee.

Is this an Apple iPod? I recommend using iTunes if it is, the iPod and iTunes has built in syncing software. 🙂

Re: Tired of Windows Media Player... switched to something e

I thought Ipods has a disk mode which let you make your ipd look like an external hard drive, so you can use Windows Explorer to copy and paste songs to it,

I honestly don't listen to music or anything very much, but I don't even want to touch the new Windows Media Player if I dare. I don't really think it is a big deal, the skin is neat, it's just way too different. Meh. I don't really want to go through the rush of downloading a new video/music player like WMP if I'm not going to use it. So I don't really have a choice with that, but I definitely agree. Boy, did this give me something to go on about or what?!

Well, actually, what I have is a Sony E series 8 GB MP3 Player.

This is what I have: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Walkman-NWZ- ... gy_e_img_c

This is the first MP3 Player I've ever gotten that has video viewing capabilities. Pretty neat and hold quite a few songs.

I'm constantly listening to music all the time. Sometimes I even do it when I'm viewing or posting on forums even, depending on my mood I agree WMP is really nice as far as looks and stuff goes, and their theme is easy on the eyes, and you can still see all the albums you have loaded on that thing. But it was just too bulky for my liking, and I wanted something more lightweight and still easy to work with, also something that didn't have so much crap on there.

If I really want to listen to music, I'd really go to playlist. Considering there is so much basic music and a funky layout on WMP, which practically leaves me wondering how that got on there. I guess I just agree with you on this subject, as far as music goes, you'd think WMP would be right at your side. Still, even if I would listen to music, I'd still use WMP because I think it is simple, just too different. That sentence meant that if I even liked listening to music, I'd use it because I'm desperate. I don't really want to take that statement too far, though. 😉
