I’m sure you have heard of a user having multiple accounts in the forum. Most forums disallow that but I know of some forums that don’t mind at all. Their reason is the posts especially for walk-ins (no referrals), multiple accounts that are active can mean more posts. But, of course, users with multiple accounts are fully monitored for they might have a hidden agenda like spamming. Nevertheless, having multiple accounts is like fooling the public, right?

I'm not a fan of multiple accounts. If I suspect an account belongs to another user, and no evidence is given to me to prove otherwise upon questioning the suspected account, I'll ban it. I've had a complaint from that before because a couple of users thought I was banning people purely for having the same IP address, which isn't the case. Give me a good reason for that IP matching all the time when the user doesn't live in the household and I wouldn't have been led to believe I'd caught a duplicate account red handed.

Not allowed on our forum.
On our old forum...There was this girl who had a whole ton of accounts that we didn't know about. I think she had mental issues now that I look back on it. She invented several characters and some of them had made different sets of friends. She used them to cause drama etc. The second most famous account was her ex boyfriend(woohoo). The day I caught her out was when she was in a thread posting shock images simultaneously from both accounts. Same IP. This was against the rules, you know, PG13 and all. I PM'd her about it and asked "I thought you two weren't speaking." She claimed they weren't and they lived in different states. She even lied when I told her that I know the posts were made from the same computer. I was sick of her lies, so as punishment, I banned all of her accounts except the boyfriend and let her explain that however the hell she wanted to the forum. All the other mods were laughing because this was totally not me. She just annoyed me by not coming clean. She was insulting my intelligence beyond reason haha. She told people he kindly gave her the account since she got herself banned.
Another forum that I was a moderator on, there were two users. They were great friends. One day, one of them announced that his friend had died. People on the forum actually cried. They had known this guy for years. Apparently he had a heart attack. 6 months later, the dead guy logs in for like 2 minutes. The admin did an investigation into the two accounts and we came to the conclusion that they were the same person. That guy was banned for 6 months for decieving the community LMAO. The admin was so angry.
See why this is a big no no? We have mod tools in place to check for multi-accounts. Also helps to alert us to ban evaders. lol.

The only type of forum this might be allowed on is RPG forums as each account could be used to play a specific character so it would make sense to have multiple accounts for that reason. Other then that, I don't really see a reason why anyone should need a second account unless they were going to spam the board up or to evade punishment which is why I wouldn't allow it if I was running anything else besides a RPG board.
