Too Strict

I never have had a strict mod on staff. I have however seen it on other forums. Needless to say I left and watched that mod get fired or stay.

I love the staff you hire whenever you demote them for a reason like this they go back to your forum and spam porn.

I will however take action against overly strict moderators though and they will not last long.

As an admin, do you intervene if your moderators are being overly strict or punishing members who AREN'T breaking the rules?
I've rarely had that problem; my staff are more relaxed than me when it comes to their jobs. In fact, one of the members of my forum was a critic of my management style: "It's actually kind of ridiculous that I'm on the staff. I think [Medora] is a little bit of a Nazi regarding this forum. Zealous forum rules are slightly illogical." He was a moderator then; he's an administrator now. I never thought of myself as being particularly strict or heavy-handed, but by at least one fellow staff member's standards I'm less so now.

That said, an instance that comes to mind of me having to intervene was when a moderator was unnecessarily rude to someone who made a mistake in regard to where he posted his introduction. I was quick to defuse the tension by talking to that moderator (in private), and to the new member who was insulted.

Regards,

Kevin

A careful balance between strict and anarchy does it for me. Being too strict just spoils the fun of it all, and total uncontrol just isn't a pleasant experience when you are on a forum.

I just got one of my board's interviewers kicked off the team for giving a user a warning for saying the phrase 'i go poo' in the chatbox.

I prefer forums that do not have strict moderation, but are still active in moderation.

Meh, I don't just hire anyone so this never happens to me.
People can change on you.. No matter how well you think you know them.

Yes, on my forum members communicate socially with moderators. But if a member is making spam posts like ''LOL'' and ''Agreed'' with no other content they still get told off. That does not really detract from socially communicating with moderators. 😉

Pretty much: If you are not acting like an idiot, we're cool. It's worked on the two forums that I've ran so far.

That's not really "strictly moderated", more, common sense.

You'd be surprised what flies on other forums.
