Funny how a little island can be the 6th richest economy

Japan, number 3, is probably even smaller / the same size?

Japan's a bit bigger, but still it's pretty small for #3. Really, size doesn't matter all that much. Just compare japan and india.

Japan is really small considering that they have one of the largest populations in the world crammed onto that little island. xD

Uk is getting more and more like them. Soon the woods will be gone. Japan don't have many mountains do they? Meaning they have more space.

Sorry, but I lol'd at this.

Even though a quote from Wikipedia, it's still fairly reliable:
About 70% to 80% of the country is forested, mountainous, and unsuitable for agricultural, industrial, or residential use.

They have less space.

They have a whole mountain range going down the center of all four main islands, hardly any space there, so they are urban consolidated on the coast.

I lol'd too. 😛

I thought Australia would be in the top 10.

Haha. If it was based on Landmass Kazakhstan would be number 9 - a bit of trivia.

Number 7 used to be in the Cold War, hah. Dropped a few ranks 😛

Also why is the world's largest country seven, though no surprise the US is #1.

I think a part of the UK's economic success might in part be related to it being an island really. It had naval advantage over countries that were trying to invade, and the strength of the naval forces played a large part in it conquering countries during the days of the Empire. I'm sure there's more to it than that though.

In 100 years time I wouldn't be surprised if the top 5 are:
5. Russia or EU
4. USA
3. Brazil
2. India
1. China
But I only know so much.

You can't blame them, though. Vatican City has a huge population.
