Yeah, that's what I meant to say. :tearsofjoy:

1) Don’t be afraid to fail the first time you try, be consistent with it.
2) Be prepared to put in a lot of work initially without much reward from it.
3) Have a clear vision for what you are trying to achieve alongside a timescale for doing this and try stick to it.

1. Try and find a niche in need of a forum. You are more likely to succeed if your forum content is unique.
2. Invite friends. It helps build a sense of community.
3. Be active. Set yourself a daily target for meaningful content creation and ensure all new member first posts receive a considered and welcoming reply.

I'm sure if Katrina wanted an AI generated answer she could have asked ChatGPT herself.

You're right in that I'm looking for advice based on experiences of those who have begun new forums so that this advice can be passed onto the novice forum builder.

What’s unique content? How do you seed discussions? What’s the best way to do it? What features make a forum stand out?

How do you make use of SEO? How can you make search engines find your site?🤔

1. Be familiar with the niche you're making a forum for. This way you'll be able to keep making new topics for other members to start posting in when they join the forum.
2. Get familiar with your forum software. Know the ends and outs or hire someone who can help you with plugin installation, themes, etc.
3. A forum takes time to grow, don't give up! Rome wasn't built in a day. Lots of people make a forum, gets it all setup the way they want and just wait around for members then no one joins or no new conversations are being made so they give up on it.

Don't expect immediate results, build everyday, and promote! You need to be consistent with your efforts to grow a forum both new, and existing ones.

Focus on building a welcoming community, engage with your members regularly, and don’t be afraid to experiment with new ideas to keep things fresh.

What are the top 3 pieces of advice you would give to a new forum owner for his forum?

(1) Focus on the members who are loyal and active on your forum rather than getting a bigger member count. Member count is only a vanity metric. A few loyal members are way better than a lot of inactive members.

(2) Only make a forum in a niche (topic) that you're extremely passionate about. This way it stays fun and entertaining for you and you don't get bored or burned out.

(3) Stop drama before it starts. Be zero tolerance on all drama and spam. A toxic community is a ruined community.

Based on my experience:

1. Be passionate about whatever topic your forum is about. I've started forums based on what was popular at the time and didn't have much of an interest in it. That led to me spending a little bit of time on the forum once it was up and running and overall neglecting it.

2. Put in the work. The easy part for me was getting the forum up and running, which is why I had a bunch at one time. I would say I've only really had one successful forum, where I constantly chatted with members, promoted everywhere I could, built partnerships and collaborations, took time to plan events, etc.

3. Be patient. I've started a bunch of forums, one after the other, once I felt like it was going nowhere. But I expected success very quickly. It definitely takes time. I remember an instance where I came back to a forum I had abandoned after a while and found a bunch of new members, asking where the admin was....

Don't expect to become successful over night. If you cannot work for over a year without seeing any tangible results, don't run a forum.
