Who went out to see the new Top Gun movie? My husband wants to go see it but I didn't want to go out since it's opening weekend so we'll wait a week or two.

In the meantime, we watched the original Top Gun because it's been years since we last saw it. We actually were dating when that movie came out and saw it at the theaters.

Many of the early Tom Cruise movies up to the remake of 'War of the Worlds' I really enjoyed, including 'Top Gun'. More recently he seems to have lost the ability to act out a character that we haven't already seen multiple times.

Perhaps it's just my prejudice, I find it hard to see beyond his infatuation with the Church of Scientology, an organization I despise.

i'm born 1995 (Gen Z / Millenial Cusp) so the quality of the original one hard to watch for me but I did watch it and I saw the second one today,
it's not bad.

The quality was high end for the year it was created.

What gets lost though today is the tension of the cold war. It was in our minds in 1986 and we were nervous about the Soviets. The collapse of the Soviet Union wasn't until 1991. In the 80s the fear of nuclear war or invasion by USSR was in our minds and you'll see movies reflecting that fear such as War Games and Red Dawn. When I watched the movie last night, that fear didn't get communicated well enough in my opinion which is what made that training completely necessary.

I have not seen it myself and I do not know when I'm going to see it at this time point. I had so much fear that Tom Cruise was going to be past it and the film would just be a sad reminder of what it once was, then again age on his side is well, 56 years old now right. He does his own stigs.

Same say it better some say they like the old, all I know that page is on or off the page. So can anyone tell me what the deal was with the F18s hitting Mach 10 when they are only supposed to be able to go a max speed of Mach 5

I got to see this movie yesterday in an IMAX theater. I don't think my husband will ever go back to seeing a movie in a regular theater ever again. Anyway, it was a good movie.

My girlfriend and I are going to go see it soon. I’ve got a bunch of AMC coupons that I need to use. Free popcorn, free drinks, etc. 😛

Critically and financially this film has been a resounding success. It's also said to surpass the original which is a very rare feat in itself so I guess it must be pretty good.

I wasn't sure about it but it seems this is a good movie. Not like most Hollywood ones with their own agenda. My husband is open to watching it so we'll catch it when it comes out later.

It sounds interesting. Anyway, it's one of those movies that are better at the theater, unless you have surround sound and some big screen.

I wanted to give an update that we saw Maverick last week and loved it! It was nostalgic, no politics, no woke garbage, just straight all American action and heroism.

That's what I heard as well. I get sick of the so called "political correctness" out there. I want movies & TV shows to be just entertainment; not leaning to one side.

Millions of other Americans agree and it showed by the amount of people going to see that movie! So cool. 🙂

OH and one other thing. Miles Teller surprised me. I'm used to seeing him in the Divergent movies and I thought he would kind of act the same, but he was totally different and I had to keep reminding myself that's who it was.

I really wanted them to finish the Divergent movies. It really didn't go well when they started splitting the last movie up into parts. I think they were trying to appeal to the fans by giving them more and viewers didn't like that I guess.

I hope this movie makes people get a taste for REAL entertainment & not settle for what Hollywood throws at us.
I watched the Divergent movies too! He actually played Willard in the remake of Footloose as well.

I think they could have done better myself. It's like they hurried along.

Watched it in theaters and gifted my brother the DVD of it last Christmas. Pretty thrilling and well-made.
