When you open a new forum, many people advertise and get a few members, what they don't realize is, many new members prefer to reply to a topic rather than make one. So a big part of being an admin is starting topics, not just on a new forum, but on any size forum, it helps activity.

How many topics do you usually make on a new board? Do You do it on your board?

I do, well I try to 😛

Yes, I always making topics when starting a new forum and I still do it every now and then after the forum is active.

I'm always making topics, at 2 weeks I already have 140.

It use to bother me at one point, but it's the owners job after all. If you want to see the site grow big, you can't expect somebody else to do it.

I tend to post up a lot of topics. But lately, others have been doing it. So I've been taking a bit of a back seat in doing it myself. Granted, I've never really had to start any topics in our Toys section due to our Toy fans there.

When i start a forum I always try to make new topics that new members will be interested in discussing, it shouldn't be their job to create new discussion, they can but you shouldn't blame all the inactivity of a forum on a member.

Agreed.

I make new topics to announce stuff and where needed in the roleplay {it is an rpg} but other than that, no more than most folks do. One way is to install a money system that rewards a few extra points more money for a thread starting post than for ordinary reply posts.

I tried to make about 130 pre-posts before release on the last two forums sold its hard doing it yourself though. I atleast like all staff to get fifty posts before release and posting in some topics.

I enlisted friends to "seed" the forum and am currently using exchanges to back-fill the discussions they started. In doing the exchanges, I noticed two things:

*The people I exchanged with seldom started topics
*Nearly all of them made one of their posts in the advertising forum

I am considering re-writing my exchange terms because the above behaviors are not fully conducive to sparking activity on a forum.
