Doesn't it seem all the forum admins here (or most) copy exactly what FP does? EFC sells the forum, and they sell their forum.

Copying someone else gets you know where.
The only place where success comes before work is the dictionary.

Thats what happens when people dont have a mind of their own and just want to latch on what actual individuals do.

SO true to make it with a new forum or website you need to buck the trent, and come up with something origanal.

I love your quote. You should have that as your siggy.

Anyway, I agree. I mean, half of these people that copy sites like Forum Promotion, really only offer some of the same services, and they don't understand what they are for or anything. I think only 1 out of 100 forums turn out successful, if any at all. They say that if someone copies you, you should be happy about it because it means that the copier in question is jealous of what you are trying to do, but at the same time, it's really not worth it, because it can only get you in trouble in the end.

People have been selling forums for years, so I don't exactly know what evidence you're using to back up your claim.

Oh, and by the way, MhW sold the forum, not EFC.

I think he was just using that as an example to clarify his point.
Anyways, people who cannot think for themselves tend to copy everything everyone else does and usually fail by doing so. Those who can actually be unique / different are the ones who stand out above the rest and usually enjoy some sort of success with their forums. I know its hard to be original, because everything has been done, but people should at least TRY to put their own spin on things.

*Sigh* There have been numerous 'everybody-copies-FP' threads. :/ Frankly, I haven't seen a completely 'original' forum for a long time now. It's like saying a gaming forums copied another by having Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo forums, which is essentially what every other gaming forum would have.

There are typical services that need to be provided in forum service forums, many of which are at FP. It's not what they provide, but how they provide them that's different.

Though of course, if you copy the forum word-for-word, there's essentially no chance of getting far with it.

I agree. Those are the worst and most annoying.

Agreed, very good observation. People just don't think of all the things so they copy. Usually copying is a form a compliment.

Ive never seen it as a compliment. Lots of people spend a lot of time to think of an idea and put it into action, to see someone else rip it off is very frustrating.

It gets particularly ugly with graphics. When I ran FA, people would advertise their forums.. Then someone else would come along saying "That forum ripped off my graphics!!!!! I demand you ban that member." After I explained that FA wasnt the place for that and we could not be the graphics police, they would go around flaming each other and just causing all sorts of drama.

People aren't happy to see others copying them in most cases and do not see it as any form of flattery or compliment. At least thats what Ive seen.

Ok, true, but, it means they like what you have done. I suppose compliment is the wrong word. But by copying it they think it works and want to have the same success themselves.

True.. they do think that imitating a successful forum will lead to success. But 9 times out of 10 it backfires.

Oh of course. People generally just stick with the success.

Oh, I was meaning people generally stick with the well known successful forums over the new copies.

Well thank you 🙂

I have something to add. Succesfull admins have difference. So if a user want a promotion forum, try offering different of faster services, not EXACTLY THE SAME.

And at the comment about selling sites, it was that same week it was sold, like 5 other promotion forums were up for sale..

If this is about graphic related ... you can basically watermark your work 🙂 as for me I have always put my name on everything I did unless it's a request, but for forums I don't think you can do much about it.. it's pretty much out there for people to see and copy

The only place where work comes before success is in the dictionary.
You fucked up the quote in your sig. Not only does it not make sense, but it creates the illusion that you are reading your dictionary backwards.

I'm wondering if the people who love copying FP will start resigning their forums like the way Efc, Murder and Fowler resigned here and perhaps start deleting their old Administrators' accounts... Go for it guys! Just because FP does it it's the right thing to do! 🙂

On a non sarcastic note: I think that there are far too many forums out there which is a huge problem. Free hosts should never have existed. Setting up forums should be hard which means that people actually appreciate how hard it is to make a good community.
