What constitutes trolling to you? How do you handle it? Do you have a system in place? Be it a plug-in or manually watching the members.
Do you view trolls as cyberbullies in a way? I do. They can be quite adamant in their posts. Not caring what they say & who they say it to.

Best idea is to do what the criminal justice system does, give people a few serious chances and then throw the book at them, unless there is some definite mental illness going on.

unless there is some definite mental illness going on.

I'm of a different mind here. Even if they do have a mental illness where they act out, I don't think it's healthy for them to be on forums getting triggered by what people say.

Unless it's a forum for that stuff, lol.

We use a points-based system. So a bad day and maybe a misunderstood action will lead to points that slowly expire over a year vs an out-right ban. However, multiple issues or continued problems lead to temp bans and eventually a perm ban if you manage to gain enough points.

What constitutes trolling to you?
Bending or breaking the rules. Being constantly negative or a jerk. Trying to always start conflicts.

How do you handle it?
Get rid of the source right away before it becomes toxic, ether by requiring post-moderation until behavior improves or banning - it depends on the trolling behavior, really.

Manual system for now.

Somewhat. I despise bullying so that will usually result in a ban with no appeal rights.

Trolling to me is someone constantly "poking the bear", and posting content that goes against the forum rules or harasses other members. I haven't had to deal with this on any of my communities thankfully, but if I did I would give out some warnings and if the person continued to troll I would eventually ban them. Not all trolling is cyberbullying, I think if it leads to harassment and berating other people on the board then it's cyberbullying.

That sums it up. Constantly poking the bear!

And the best way to deal with that is show them the bear's wild side.

Trolling is some sort of cyberbullying. I have been trolled multiple times. In the past, it hurt, but these days I am too important to give a damn about these trolls.

Trolling to me is when someone comes onto a forum or even a blog just to throw around insults or be nasty and leave nasty comments towards other members of a blog or forum just to be insulting or try to upset someone. I absolutely despise bullying of anything kind and when it comes to trolls, I do see it as cyber bullying and I will always outright ban when I get trolls like that and then speak to the person who they may have targetted to let them know that I have dealt with them and that they have been banned and not to worry and ensure they are okay.

I just banned a member on Christianity Haven because he was trolling and that meant that he was purposely trying to cause drama instead of sticking to the topic of the threads. It came across as threatening to a member who is not one to feel threatened often, so I trusted his instincts and gave the member a Warning...and the guy fought me on the site instead of privately, so bam, 6 month ban for him. I put up with a lot of on the site and try to give members many chances to change their behavior. It's the blatant disrespect that got to me this time.
